Today, one of the most important days in the history of Apple, comes a somewhat related news:

IDC just announced it is estimated that between January and March that just happened, Netbooks makers shipped 33.6% more sub-notebook machines compared to the same period last year. In other words, 4.8 million units.

However promising this figure may seem at first glance, the growth of this segment during this period is significantly slower than in the first quarter of 2009, when sales rose a surprising Netbooks 872%, to 3.6 million units.

Obviously the segment continues to grow, but it is a possible stagnation in two years more. That's why, that the tablets as the HP IPAD and promising Slate, are coming at a specific time and creating a new segment in the industry.
