Hi, eGO.

I'm not sure if I can post this or not or if this is in the right area.

But I bought a HTC Dream AKA Tmobile's G1.
Well, my problem is, I want to hack/modify it.

You can't remove the programs that comes preinstalled, but I know there is a way around this.

I can get the Terminal that comes to Market to run, but when I try to uninstall anything/make any changes at all it says "Permission denied, need root access."

..Uh, OK? Does anyone know how to get root access in the G1 by Tmobile which supports Google's OS, Android?

I have the first version, not the second one.
Exact same phone that's below:

Here is the information about the phone:
Model Number: TMobile G1.
Firmware version: 1.6
Kernel version: 2.6.29

Thank you very much for looking.

Admins: Sorry if I am not allowed to post this. This post is in reference to an operating system, not just a phone. Thank you.

Well, hacking in the sense to cause destruction or hacking in the sense to remove an unwanted program?

Hmmm it depends i suppose. I wouldnt refer to it as hacking them, more along the lines of "modifying"

Alright, excuse me, does anyone know how to modify the phone to remove unwanted preinstalled programs that you normally can't remove?

Specifically, the MMS feature it comes with.
Reason is I bought one from the Market, but when both are installed, both send me a notification when someone sends me a text message and it sounds like a complete train wreck, two different noises going off at the same time.

I'm just going to go ahead and post that you are not "hacking" the device, but modifying it. Its not against the law, but it will void your warranty. (For the people who say that this is against eGO's code of conduct)

Its similar to jailbreaking ipod's. It simply nulls the warranty. and the provider might cancel your phone plan

Well, I bought the phone without my provider's consent to avoid another 2-year contract deal.

ie; ebay.

The phone is great, it's just that little flippin' annoying double notification thing I want to get rid of and the one I bought is a lot better, prettier, and easier to use then the phone that comes with the phone.

please pursue this discussion on a different set of forums. eGO does not condone hacking of any kind. thanks guys.
