Baffling question.

I use 2 SATA 1tb hard drives on my computer.

But when I unplug them from the motherboard and connect an IDE hdd, they seem to malfunc--Well, my main one, C: seems to malfunction.

After I am done and I plug them back in, Windows 7 fails to load.
It'll sit their with the dreaded _ blinking.

After popping in the Windows7 CD and doing the Startup Recovery thing, I continuously get this error:

"Invalid boot partition, created new".
..What? How did my partition table crap out on me by unplugging it from the motherboard?

Restart after it's done and it works.

Can anyone tell me why I have to do this every single time I connect an IDE?

If I ignore the blinking light and just hop on my Linux, it works like a charm.
So it's hard to believe this is hard-ware related.

This has also never happened on Windows XP Professional before.

Thanks again eGO and sorry for all the Tech requests, lol.

I would assume it has something to do with the BIOS. Do you use ACHI with the sata drives? Or are they still in IDE mode.

Does the BIOS detect them properly on the first boot up after switching them in and out?

And for curiosity whats the purpose in connecting an IDE Hard drive?

ACHI is enabled, although I have toggled between that and IDE-mode to see if it still happens.
It still does.

And I was reformatting the IDE hard drive for my brother since it was sitting in the closest for like, 4 months.

It always shows in BIOS properly.

Any ideas would be well appreciated, thanks for your effort.

Correction: Once AHCI is enabled all the sudden, I get the BSOD. I followed this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
I've had AHCI enabled before, but after following that article I suddenly am forced into IDE-mode otherwise that "Inaccessible boot drive" BSoD.

Still get the BSOD, after the changes.

EDIT: Just realized you asked me a question, sorry. I was formatting my brothers IDE HDD after 4 months of no action.

Only thing I can get from is that the HDD is going out. I had a HDD doing that to me also but that was because it was about to fail.

None of my files are deleted.
I don't suffer from intense READ/WRITE delays, just the normal IDE enabled lags.

Man..:(

Just a quick question:
You have set up the right boot device in your BIOS after removing the IDE and inserting the SATA back?
That sounds a bit like your BIOS can't find the right MBR (i.e. the one on your SATA)
