Ok I'm getting tired of people complaining about lag spikes at the beginning of rounds on the office server. This may have been mentioned before and if so please disregard / delete this thread.

I just created this to maybe have a spot for anyone to throw out ideas of how to solve or alleviate the issue. If nothing can be done oh well, but any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated (especially from the leadership).

My Suggestion: have a dedicated server right next to me (in the room).... j/k

thanks for your time,
kilarious

Note: I heard it has something to do with high traffic on the map and a dust map.

A lot of us agree to this, but if you have any suggestions, then you should post them in the drop box.

Problems like this belong in the drop box, or sent to leadership. Now if it is frequent, leadership most likely knows already

Often the lag spikes may be

1. Server maintenance. We gotta keep up somehow!
2. Large number of players. If you've got a full server with a lot of high pings, lag will come up
3. Hackers. Yes their out there. Our server might be getting ddossed (Denial of service attack) or possibly someone is trying to hack it.

Here's the thing. If the lag is frequent, there's a 110% chance leadership knows. They do their best to stop the problems.

And remember, its not only the office server on that box.
It carries dust2 and (zombie mod i think) as well.

Lots of traffic, and lots to deal with.

Just remember kids, complaining about it only makes it worse (in server i mean).

Ok thanks for the responses guys and gals. How about I change the topic slighty regarding Office.

For those of you who play / admin the server I was pondering a few loose rules. Examples:

1. I prohibit killing / wounding the hostages at round start (especially in projector). It just makes it easier for the CTs if the hosties die. I warn, kick.

2. I warn, kick, ban anyone Smoke spamming (throws more than 2 or 3 smokes) at round start.

3. I mute people who feel the need to constantly remind everyone else that they are lagging "laggggggggggggggggg"

Any thoughts on these situations or do you have any interesting ones yourself.

1. Has never been much of a problem that ive noticed.
-Usually only happens when one CT takes the 2 easy hostages, and the they nade the 2 in projector.

2. Agreed, applies to HE nade spam aswell, and smoke sticking.

3. General warning also works.

1. you don't have to worry about the killing of hostages by Ts, cause the server will auto kick them. However eGO does not allow the intentional killing of hostages by CTs to win the game. for example, if they rescue 3 of the 4 hostages, then just go shoot the 4th one to win, you should w/k/b for that.

2. Agreed

3. Warn first, then mute would be my recommendation.

4. You should probably ask these in the eG or eGO private forums
