Here's the deal building a gaming pc in a bit, i have the basic idea of parts but my cost is going waaay over what i first thought it would be (around $700-800 excluding externals) all im asking is for a lil help cutting costs heres my list of parts :
(this is supposed to have alot of expandability and is gonna be one kickass gaming PC. also i wont be overclocking this alot)
Note: Most of stuffs on Tigerdirect but some amazon

Hard drive WD 500gb $50

Memory 2x2 gb DDR3 $110

MotherBoard,Processor (bundle) $300

Graphics card $170

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Internal-Height-Supermulti-Lightscribe/dp/B002HFWBIA/ref=cm_lmf_tit_10_rsrsrs1"]Simple optical drive $30[/ame] not much you can do about that but im not doing any harm putting it down

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Modular-Certified-CrossFire/dp/B001NJ0CZK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268777208&sr=8-1-catcorr"]Power supply $125[/ame] i think this will stay cuz its modular

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Nine-Hundred-Steel-Ultimate/dp/B000I5JHB0/ref=pd_cp_e_1"]Case $110[/ame]
that or this is what im currently deciding on
Alt Case $90

Current sum: $875

Yeah thats about it, some help would be awesome :P
Thanks in advance

Get the Cooler Master 922. It's much better than the Antec 900

PSU $80

Case $90

Optical Drive $25

Overclocked version of the same video card $170

Same HDD $56

Mobo + CPU Combo $290

Memory $113

So your current total is running at $825 with better parts than you had before.

If you include mail-in rebates your new price is $765

Newegg is THE BEST place to buy computer parts from. Tiger direct is alright, but they sometimes overprice. Amazon overprices ALL the time, they do it excessively, and do not provide decent warranties for the parts. Hope this helps, if you have questions find me ventrilo.

Please note that this build includes a better case, a faster video card, a faster optical drive, slightly slower memory (you will not notice the difference with your build), a better PSU, and a faster CPU. Same hard drive though (good choice on western digital). On a second note, getting a quad core processor for this build will not do you much good. Its like getting a scope for your shotgun. The other parts do not perform well enough for the scope (or quad core) to be useful.

Looks good thanks blue :D

Hm. It's kind of hard justifying that build, Blue.
I mean Jesus Christ, a dual core build for $825? My god. At least get the i3.

i5 661 is a beast.

1 build coming up

EDIT: here it is:

Mobo $60

CPU $70 (OEM model

RAM $105

CPU cooler $35

GPU $150

PSU $100

OS $100

HDD $55

$735.90 before shipping

Advantages (compared to other builds):

-Triple core CPU

-RAM that isn't Crap

-PSU that is REALLY good (honestly you cant buy anything that is of higher quality)

-Case is painted inside (looks sexy)

-Better mobo (more expansion slots)

-video card has better cooler (not OC'd, but you can do that yourself)

-High performance CPU cooler (Will allow you to Overclock your CPU like a BoSS)

just finished mine with AMD

I noticed and also noticed you included OS and still beat my prices ass :P but excluded case/opticaldrive so its even

I think I'll keep the old video card though, noticed its only got 1 DVI and 1 HDMI
so it cant support the 3 monitors.

Actually my HDMI would most of the time be taken over by my single player only 360 (dont ask)
Card looks good i think ill get it, well unless we can miraculously lower it any more i think we're done here.

thanks to all that helped :)

EDIT: and i hope ur against " alternative methods" im too much of a ms fanboy to do such a thing

Well, hope you like your setup. I know i would. :)

please do not buy a hitachi HDD whatever you decide. Thats suicide.

Stick with western digital or seagate

IF you have a MC close to home, check em out. Nice n easy returning stuff if its not compatible. Built my i3 office rig from there for around $550.

intel i3 $99
asus h55 pro 120
CM hyper 212 24
antec 300 44
WD500 blue 50
SonyDVDRW 25
OCZ Gold 1600 119 - 30 rebate
BFG 450 watt psu 35
total 517

If you do have a microcenter closeby , ill link you to all the parts. You will still need an OS and a GPU which you have plenty of room for.

Yea RAM prices have been up . Almost a year ago when i built my i7 920 rig, 6gb ocz1333 cost under $100

You may want to consider going with This Processor

and This Motherboard

If you're going with a cheap and easy gaming machine to upgrade an ancient PC, this AMD dual core will give you a higher clockspeed and better overclocking headroom, most of their triple cores were just bastardized quad cores that really don't overclock that well. Especially for gaming on a more affordable computer, the games that you'll be looking to play will get a lot more out of the clockspeed than the extra one or two cores.

As for the case, I got my Antec 900 from Newegg for a $70 deal with free shipping. It's amazing, one of the best cases I've ever owned. If you wait long enough the deal usually comes back every 6 months or so. That said, the Cooler Master HAF was pretty much the top rated cooling cases on the market, if you can get that for less than the Antec, it would definately be worth it.

Dual core is pretty much outdated now, your better off getting a tri or quad. I want proof that tri's don't OC well. Spending $75 on a dual is pointless.

My Hitachi is going on 2 years no problem
