NASA officially a three-year alliance with Chrysler Automotive, through which they can share information on technologies developed by both and which are of mutual interest.

In this way, Chrysler will have access technologies originally developed for use in space flight and improving the vehicles to be used in the future.

Similarly, NASA will be able to adopt technologies that are used in automobiles and apply in future space missions.

The agreement was signed by the Innovative Partnerships Program at NASA, creating a special coordination group is responsible for seeking opportunities for collaboration in areas such as mobility systems, development of new advanced materials and use wireless technologies. In fact already identified the first areas to be analyzed, among these include materials engineering, robotics, radar systems and the use of batteries.

To Mike Coats, director of Johnson Space Center of NASA, the importance of agreement is that

Investment in technology has led NASA to hundreds of applications on Earth for decades, and this collaboration with Chrysler promises to continue this tradition

ASA has a long history of collaboration with various companies globally. In the '60s Chrysler itself was responsible for building the rockets used in Project Mercury, in charge of putting the country's first astronaut (United States) in space. Similarly, the company collaborated actively in the development of spacecraft Apollo 7 and Apollo 8.
