Hey, hadn't seen much official press about the new AMD Thuban CPUs that have already launched in China and hopefully are releasing here in the US at the end of the month, so I thought I would see what everyone thinks or has to say about them.

A guy who got his hands on one in Hong Kong has been posting on Xtreme Systems' Forums and though I haven't read the entire thread, only 5 or 6 pages thus far, he had gotten it up to 3.9 GHz stable. (Three minutes later I read the rest and find that he gets it up to 4.2 GHz)

The thread is here if anyone is interested:

It's AMD.

Hopefully they won't epic fail and release one with a core shut off just for the sake of marketing a 5-core cpu. Idiots for doing that with the tri-cores...

I also don't read anything about any sort of hyper-threading capabilities...

My i7 pwns another day (4 physical + 4 virtual = 8 cores of fun...).

First off, I'm not an AMD fanboy, I just dislike your bashing.

I do not see now releasing a 3 core processor is an epic fail. They actually saved a lot of money by not tossing failed quad core processors out.

Hyper-threading is an Intel thing, so it's no surprise we don't see it here.

And your i7 has 4 physical cores and 4 which your computer imagines are there. The Phenom II x6 has 6 physical cores. Big difference.

Also, the cheapest i7 is around $300 where as the cheapest x6 is $200. Both processors have 2.8 GHz cores. This is where AMD shines.

Note: He got this processor to 4.2 on air!

Yeah I saw the LN article on a different site I think, but good post torzak.

The i7 is stacking up against the x6 1090t BE since they have the same price range.

The CPU that got to 4.2 on air was the 1055t, which is only 200-205$. That is stacking up against the i5-750 and I must say I am now looking at that instead of getting the 750.

200$ for a hexa-core CPU that can get to 4.2 on air is a beautiful price point. Also the 1035t 2.6 GHz CPU isn't that far away either and that should more than likely break the sub-200$ barrier, which will be insanity.

The turbo by itself gives it a 500 MHz boost. Not bad if OC'n isn't for you.

1035t - Stock: 2.6 GHz, Turbo: 3.1 GHz
1055t - Stock: 2.8 GHz, Turbo: 3.3 GHz
1090t - Stock: 3.1-3.3 GHz, Turbo: 3.6-3.8 GHz

I've heard conflicting reports about the Stock speed for the 1090t so not completely sure if it's 3.1 or 3.3.

Ugh, I just built my i7 a month or two ago. I should have waited, save myself the money and get a decent GPU.
