Story: The British get really Xenophobic

Review: Depressing, but well crafted dystopian film about a world where humanity is sterile. The story is well told and the acting is great, but the real star of this film is the cinematography. The camera is really brilliantly done with long complex scenes playing out without a single cut. I mean holy crap the ending battle sequence didn't have a cut...god daaaaaaaaaaamn.

I thought this movie was far superior to First Blood part II and the third Rambo. Whereas those two were more focused on stylized action and over the top situations the most recent one did have some slight similarities to the first one. In someways it reconnects with the depth of character of the first John Rambo, but only during a minute long flashback/montage of the older films lol.

I also dig your review of Crank 2!

True Lies is also one of my favorite action films from the 90s. it follows along the same lines as The Last Action Hero as it is a parody of every Arnold Schwarzenegger film ever made while at the same time starring the famed action hero. Only this time taken to even more ridiculous lengths. Only James Cameron could pull that off

I'd also like to hear your take on Memento (Christopher Nolan, 2001).

Agreed, the new Rambo film is leaps and bounds over Part II. Also Last Action hero is John McTiernan, the guy who did Die Hard and Predator...speaking of which.

Story: A group of commandos wander into a jungle. Hilarity...no scratch that, death and destruction ensues.

Review: Violent and entertaining action/Sci-fi/Horror film that is now a classic. All around a pretty solid film.

Story: Predator is back and this time he is killing drug dealers in Detroit. That's right kids, Predator not says no to drugs, he rips out the spines of those who offer it to him(or her, heck if I know).

Review: You know your film is going to suck when you replace Arnold Schwarzenegger with Danny Glover...and then you replace Carl Weathers with Gary Busey. Yeah, that's right Gary Busey is in this turd. Actually, allow me to propose a philosophical question here: Does the simple fact that Busey is in this film make it bad...like does Busey suck out all the quality from a film when he is attached to it?

Story: Eleven guys decide to rob Andy Garcia.

Review: This is the kind of film that lacks depth, but is entertaining enough to over come that. The humor is midrange and the plot the delightfully over-the-top. The characters are entertaining and likable, even Garcia's. It's just an over all fun film.

Story: This is the end. My only friend, the end.

Review: Amazing in scope and breathtaking in depth, Apocalypse Now is easily one of the greatest war films of all time. The film is beautifully crafted, despite all the hard-ships the film makers faced while making this. This is one of those must see film. So if you haven't go out buy it, rent it, steal it...just watch it.

Story: Art through adversity

Review: This is the best documentary on film making that I know of. The film chronicles the making of Apocalypse Now and everything that went wrong during it's production. From typhoons to Martin Sheen heart attack to Marlon Brando being a dick, we see how this film was crafted out of the worst of all possible conditions. I recommend this to anyone who want's to see what it takes to make a film on the magnitude of Apocalypse Now.

Story: The final days of Hitler.

Review: This film chronicles the final days of Hitler and those around him. There is an air of dread through out the whole film and there is a high degree of tension to the events that play out. Bruno Ganz does a spectacular job at playing Hitler, he manages to capture the emotion and anger of a man who has come to the bitter end of a long road. Definitely worth watching.

Plot: rellik s’efiw sih nwod kcart ot seirt, meaning that our protagonist can no longer create long term memories and his short term memory only lasts for a few minutes, aisenma edargoretna htiw nam A.

Review: As you could probably tell from the plot description, we are dealing with a film done in reverse chronological order. This essentially means that the film starts at the end, and ends with the beginning. Of course with Memento only part of the film moves backwards, the scenes done in black and white are moving in chronological order.

Anyway, Memento, is a mystery film that starts with a killing and works backwards to find the answer. Its an interesting concept and Nolan manages to make the film work. All the actors hit their marks, Guy Pearce is very good in his role as our protagonist. This is the kind of film that asks the audience to meet it half way. So if you are looking for escapism and an easy film to follow look elsewhere. For everyone else, Memento is an entertaining and, for the most part, rewarding experience.

Story: Oh yeah this film goes there.

Review: This is a hard film to review, because I don't think I can recommend it to anyone. The violence and depravity depicted here will turn the stomachs all but the most tempered. This film is also told in reverse chronological order and I guess it's necessary to tell the story...but I mean this is a brutal film. With scenes of heads getting turned into tapioca with a fire extinguisher. Or the most brutal and I really mean brutal rape scene ever committed to film. So watch if you want, but I did warn you.

Story: These are fictional lives. Based on factual deaths.

Review: In this strange war film we follow the exploits of five soldiers of the Big Red One. We follow them from the landing at Algeria to Sicily to Normandy to Belgium to Germany to Czechoslovakia. This film is pretty long and at times fells like a slog to get through, but in the end it's a very rewarding film. The real star of the film is Lee Marvin who gives a touching and deep performance. Also the only movie outside of Star Wars that I've seen Mark Hamill in.

Story: It's that Beatles musical.

Review: Here is the thing, I like the Beatles...but I didn't like this film. For like a year after the movie was released I kept hearing "Hey Alex! You like the Beatles I sure you'll love this movie...it has the Beatles in it." So after hearing this like 20 or so times I decided to finally watch this thing...and amazingly I didn't like it. Maybe it's because of the use of the Beatles or maybe something else, but this one just didn't do it for me.

Review: Quirky and violent musical that takes place in a future where artificial organs are sold at exorbitant prices and most people can only afford it on credit. When they fail to pay then send out a Repo team to take back to organ. Like I said, a strange for a musical, though pretty entertaining. Basically became a cult film by the time it was released.

Story: Hey, look another WWII film.

Review: Fun action packed WWII film about a group of condemned soldiers being trained for a suicide mission to kill the Nazi high command before the Normandy invasion. The film is immensely enjoyable and one of the better WWII action movies.

Story: Is this the most forgettable film of the year?

Review: What this film seeks to do is take the incredibly complex situation that is the US war in Iraq and to turn it into a simplistic action film. Sure it should be easy to ignore this fact if it didn't seem like that was a political statement attached to it. To make things worse the film is just so bland that and uninspired that I nearly forgot that I was it...like a month ago.

Story: Hey look Mel Gibson is back and on the edge of darkness.

Review: Gibson is back doing what Gibson does best...meaning he is playing someone who is avenging the death of a loved one. While we have seen this character like twenty times before and frankly the story is a little stale, but it's still a fun little thriller.
