Story: It's the best worst movie. Or at least one of them.

Review: This is the kind of movie where you watch with a group of friends and maybe a bottle or two of your favorite booze. Watch it already drunk of devise drinking games to go along with it. Cus heavens knows there isn't anyway you can enjoy this sober and alone. Fall strictly into the it's so bad its good category. All you have to remember is that the film is really really bad.

How about "The Prestige", one of my favourite films.

Title: The Prestige
Year: 2006

Director: Christopher Nolan

Story: Rival magicians duke it out.

Review: In this dark brooding drama we follow two magicians played by Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Who begin working with each other as apprentices under a hack magician, but soon form a rivalry that will consume their whole lives. The film is surprisingly interesting given the subject and Nolans do a great job with both the story and the script. The story gets a little convoluted in the way its told...it's a little hard to explain, but you'll get what I mean when you see it. Overall it's an engrossing and suspenseful drama... definitely worth a watch.

You have to watch the first one to really appreciate the second one.

I grew up watching the first one and I loved it. seeing it remade was great and I loved it.

I'm sorry to say this, but I doubt it. I didn't grow up with the original so see the remake didn't do anything nostalgia wise. If I saw the original now I don't think it will help in my enjoyment of the new one. Though, because I did see the new one and disliked it, there is a good chance that in comparison I would enjoy the original more than I would have if I had not seen the remake.

I remember you posting a screen of that movie for the Movie Screenshot game. I only remember because I spent like 30 minutes hunting it down. I finally got that one when I recognized Cliff Curtis in one of the screenshots.

Review: I'm not a big fan of this one. I hate the idea of doing camp for the sake of camp. It has the same feeling of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes...and I get what they are trying to do, but it just doesn't gel with me.

Story: Willem Dafoe in drag...oh dear god no.

Review: Wait I wrote a review for this one on Netflix: The Boondock Saints is nearly an irredeemable pile of garbage, but thoroughly entertaining. The acting pretty bad, everyone but the two leads & Defoe seem to be phoning it in. The film all around feels pretty budget with minor technical quirks dotting the landscape. For me it's a guilty pleasure that I can?t really defend on an artistic basis, it is pure escapism.

Title: Red Riding Trilogy
Year: 2009
Country of Origin: UK
Director: 1974 by Julian Jarrold, 1980 by James Marsh, 1983 by Anand Tucker.

Story: A trilogy of films dealing with wide spread corruption of the Yorkshire police department during a 9 year stretch.

Review: Yeah, I know that it's three separate TV movies...but they were released theatrically here in the states and are treated as one film here by most critics...and I'm not going to argue with them. The trilogy based on a series of four books written by David Peace, one that I haven't read. The second book of the series was not used. The films are titled as such: In the Year of Our Lord 1974, In the Year of Our Lord 1980 and In the Year of Our Lord 1983.

1974: This is why I wish that some films coming out of the UK had subtitles. I spent a lot of the film in total confusion just trying to figure out what they were saying. Well that was at first...eventually I figured out what was going on and was treated to a really depressing film about a young reporter who starts to investigate a local Real Estate mogul and soon discovers some real dark skeletons hiding in his closet. Soon he finds himself way to far into the whole mess and has now gotten the attention of the police who are also in bed with the Real Estate guy. According to Wikipedia the film was shot in 16mm, which explains its grainy look. The film is well acted and directed.

1980: In this one our protagonist is an Police detective who is brought in to Yorkshire to help investigate Yorkshire Ripper case. As his investigation continues he finds that one of the murders doesn't match. He soon finds himself knee deep in a cover up that is directly related to the events of the first film. Once again the film is well acted and well directed.

1983: During the last film there were a few characters who were present in both films. This one deals with those characters and how they were involved in the events of the first two films. It does a pretty good wrapping up the plot and revealing several mysteries that the first two films created. Like the other two films, this one was well acted and directed.

Overall: This one is hard to review, over the roughly 5 hours that it takes to watch all these I have to say that they kept my interest the whole time. The breath of the project is immense and is really well done. If you have the time and an ear for a Yorkshire accent, then I recommend these films.

I'm trying to get my friends to go see 'em but they're afraid I'll strap them into a chair and make them watch all 3 in one sitting. It seems if I dare numerate a movies run time and it comes anywhere close to any of the LoTR films they freak (Though I do have to ask how one person in this group got through "Che" in one sitting :glare so Chie & I are the only ones around here who know this project even exists.

I can't really recommend anything, I need to catch up meself, just barely discovered this thread.

Story: Mel Gibson is on the edge of Vietnam.

Review: This is one of the stranger Vietnam films I've seen, mostly because it's doing something different here. The movie just straight up tells what happened at the Battle of Ia Drang...almost, we have to remember that this is indeed a Gibson and as such historical accuracy usually takes a back seat. In you average Nam film we are usually treated to a vision of hell on earth and the soldiers who had to adapt to such surroundings and as such pushed to the edge of sanity or humanity. Like Animal Lover in "Full Metal Jacket" or Colonel Kurtz in "Apocalypse Now". We Were Soldiers skips that and goes directly head long into battle...sure some characters get fleshed out, but only a few. Overall it's a pretty good war film, that stands out from other films in the Vietnam war genre.

Yeah, was hard to get someone to watch these with me. I could only convince one friend who was willing to invest to time.

Story: Reporter pretends to be insane to get into a mental hospital to investigate a murder.

Review: This one would probably be a little better known if it weren't for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which came out a little over a decade later. The story follow a reporter who manages to get himself committed to a mental institution in order to solve a murder that happened in the institution. As he digs deeper into the story he begins to lose his grasp on reality. The film is just filled with weird scenes and is pretty entertaining.

Director: Steven Soderbergh

Story: "I've been to Tokyo. They sell little-girl underwear in the vending machines right on the main drag, the Ginza, or whatever. Guys in suits buying used girl panties. How is that okay? That's not okay."

Review: A quirky little comedy about a man who decides to become a whistle blower for the FBI. What is he blowing the whistle on you might as? Well price fixing of an industry that I didn't never knew existed. How in the hell did they make that entertaining...let alone funny. Well our protagonist usually has a running dialog with himself, like the one mentioned above...oh, and he might have ulterior motives for doing what he's doing. The films feels a little to long, but it's still fun.

Story: In this review we learn why ATHF is only 15 minutes long.

Review: Alright, I admit it, I enjoy ATHF...a lot. The shows anarcho humor and strange plots are pretty entertaining. Which is why I was so disappointed in the movie. The primary issues is painfully obvious at the half hour point. First, by the half hour point the plot has pretty much over stayed its welcome...it ceases to be engaging. Second, at the same point the film stops being funny and suddenly becomes a slog to get through. The thing is, if the film was condensed down to a half hour it would be entertaining. But as it is...it's a boring mess.

Story: Massive gangs, assassins, kung fu masters and slap shtick.

Review: Funny and imaginative spoof about a massive gang duking it out with an older couple who own a local slum. This film is beautifully shot and as I said before wildly imaginative. Yes, the humor does get really stupid at times, but overall it's an entertaining experience.

Story: Rave at the center of the earth.

Review: Action packed follow up to The Matrix obviously continues the story of the first. It's entertaining, but not as fresh or smart as the original film. The story gets bogged down with a quasi-philosophical plot that at times comes off as gibberish. If you can ignore the plot, it's still an enjoyable film.

Year: 2003

Director: Wachowski brothers

Story: Yep, Neo is Jesus.

Review: The big stupid finally to a series that started out with so much promise. I really can't blame the Wachowski's for this mess, they wanted to combine Reloaded and Revolution into one film. They also wanted to do a prequel, which would have been amazing. It was the studio heads that forced them to kill the prequel and expand the sequel into two films. If you want to see what the prequel would have looked like, check out both parts of The Second Renaissance on The Animatrix.

What we are left with is a muddled film that at best is mildly entertaining, at worst it can damage your enjoyment of the first film...just by association. It really is one of the most disappointing things I've witnessed.

Story: Paul Newman's last screen appearance.

Review: Dark and brooding yet engrossing drama about a mob hitman and his son on the run from the wrath that his life has brought him. The story is deceptively simple, but has great depth to it. Mendes, as per usual, does an amazing job directing and the cast does a great job in their roles.

Director: Sam Raimi

Story: A group of friends go out to a cabin...

Review: A spectacularly gory horror film about a group of friends who are under siege by an ancient evil. This is Raimi's first film and he had a pretty small budget...and it shows. Despite all that, this is one of those great horror films that is revered by many. While it's not my film of the genre, it's still worth a view...if only to set you up for the sequel.
