Magnificent Seven? want your take on it since i know you are a fan of the japanese films from whence it came.

Story: A group of hired gunmen defend a village from bandits.

Review: One of two westerns that I know of that have been adapted from a Kurosawa film. It's an engaging and well told tale, though not as good as Kurosawa's original. The acting is pretty good and Wallach is comically enough playing a Mexican, something he will do in a latter western. This is a good western and one that I recommend.

Review: After being blamed for the killing of the man in the above video the gang the Warriors have to make it from the Brox to their home turf of Coney Island before every gang in New York tears them to pieces. Well shot and acted this is one of those iconic cult films that will be remembered for some time to comes.

South park: bigger, longer and uncut.

Title: South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

Story: Should we blame the government? Or blame society? Or should we blame the images on TV? No, blame Canada.

Review: This movie is one of the few instances of a TV show actually succeeding on the big screen. Parker and Stone did an amazing job with the script and the songs. Easily one of the best non-Disney/Pixar animated films out there.

Well there are a couple of Pixar films that I hold in pretty high esteem.

Title: The Incredibles

Story: Kind of like Watchmen for kids.

Review: Brilliantly written film about Superheros in world with lawyers. When a Superhero named Mr. Incredible saves a man who is trying to off himself he finds himself in the middle of political backlash that winds up outlawing Superheros. In standard Pixar fashion the tale is wonderfully told and animated. The voice acting is top notch, with a hilarious performance put in by Samuel L. Jackson. Do your self a favor and watch this.

Story: A tale of Christianity, new age cults and perverse behavior.

Review: Clocking in at almost 4 hours, this movie puts in a massive variety of themes and ideas into a cinematic blender. The result is an entertaing and somewhat profound film about a confused young man whose father is disappointed in him for not sinning enough. This is a weird and violent one of a kind epic that could easily be Sono's masterpiece.

Story: A man attempts to rise from a mail room clerk to the CEO of a international conglomerate without really trying.

Review: In this film, which was based on a musical, which was based on a book, is really damn enjoyable. The lead, played by Robert Morse, does a spectacular job in his role...though I'm pretty sure he played the role on broadway. This movie is really well known and is under appreciated. If you get the chance to watch this one, then do so.

Story: Cue the Strauss.

Review: Like most of Kubrik's films this one was hated by critics when it first came out, but is now considered an unmitigated classic....and this is an unmitigated classic. The plot is pretty deep and I could write an essay on its meaning, so I'll skip the summary. It's one of those films that need really need to be seen by anyone who has even the slightest interesting in film. You might love it or you might despise it, but at the very least you need to watch it.

Story: No X in Nixon

Review: The tale of two reporters from the Washington Post, who follow a story of what on the surface seemed to be a simple story, but turns out to be one of the largest scandals in American history. For those of you who aren't familiar with this time in American history, you can read up on it here. It's a solid and interesting film, but the pacing slows down from time to time.

Story: A group of likable bank robbers get in way over their heads.

Review: Sort of a story of conjecture on actual events that involve a group of guys who are hired to rob a bank and one safety deposit box in particular. The box supposedly contained so risque pictures of one of the royals and the person who hired the group apparently worked for some high up government agency. It's an enjoyable film, with a well told story and a cast of likable characters. Easily Statham's most respectable film since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Story: When someone on the phone tells you that he is a bada** and has the ability to find you and to kill you if you do not release his daughter...and he says it in the calmest voice possible. Then you release his daughter and find some other person's daughter to kidnap.

Review: Besson, the producer/writer, has a way of making Paris seem like a dangerous place live in. In much the same way that Cronenberg makes Toronto look like the most dangerous place on the planet. Anyway this is an entertaining action film about a father who kills a whole bunch of people to save his daughter from becoming a sex slave. Not the best action film out there and not Besson's best either. Still it's a fun little flick.

Story: "I do wish we could chat longer, but... I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye."

Review: This has to be Anthony Hopkins' best film. The way he plays Hector is damn amazing and neigh on hypnotic. Here we follow Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, who is an FBI agent in training, that is put on a case of several brutal murders. To find the killer she must speak with suave incarcerated serial killers...Hopkins. This is a spectacularly done film and everything about it is great. Definitely must watch.

Story: When you leave the room your toys will come to life...some how this isn't a horror film.

Review: This is the first film from Pixar and holy crap, what a way to kick off a studio. All the voice actors do an amazing job and the story plays out well. The animation still holds up to today's standards. If you haven't seen this film then please do so at the soonest possible convenience.
