Article ITT I attempt to review every movie I've seen.

Title: Marvel's The Avengers

Story: Two British spies must band together to stop an evil Scotsman who plans to...wait...crap...wrong movie.

Review: So Marvel actually pulled it off, it only took four years and five movies to get it all set up...but The Avengers is here and miraculously it doesn't suck.

For those of you who have been in a some sort of cultural coma for the last four years, Marvel cranked out five movies; Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, all of which have been building up one way or another to The Avengers. Which, taken all together and minus The Avenger's gross so far the earnings of these films are a grand total of $2.290 billion dollars. By the time this movie is done that figure will easily peak over $3 billions...so mazel tov to Marvel and Disney.

Anyway, this is a review, so lets discuss the quality of the film. For the most part, what everyone is saying about this movie is correct; it is awesome. There is no way around it, Joss Whedon has managed to craft a wholly enjoyable film...which is quite a feat given the films 2 hour and 20 minute run time. It is not perfect though, the 2nd act of the film doesn't work as well as it should and Robert Downy Jr. is more obnoxious than funny for most the film. Still, most everyone one else is great in their roles, especially Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (the third in less than a decade). Ruffalo is so far is my favorite actor to take on Banner. Also the final big action scene that takes up pretty much all of the final third of the film is freaking fantastic. It makes me wish that Whedon had directed the Transformers movies...seriously this guys knows how to do massive battles in a city.

So yeah, go watch it.

I gotta say Sexy, if theres 1 thing I like bout u when it comes to reviews, ur def honest. U dont beat round the bush & tell it like it is (which is the way that more paid movie reviews groups should do it). I think ill watch it next week when I get more $$ in.

Having seen Avengers as well, I wholeheartedly agree w/ Sexy. There were quite a few points in the movie where the entire theater was laughing, frequently at something Stark said/did (Cap-cicle anyone?).

Title: Take Shelter
Year: 2012

Director: Jeff Nichols

Story: This is a tale of the apocolypse...well not really.

Review: Take Shelter is essentially a film about a man who starts to have vivid dreams that he interprets as predictions for a possible apocolyptic event. Sounds crazy, right? Well our main character thinks so too and while he preparing for the apocolypse he is also checking in with a psychiatrist. At its heart Take Shelter is a family drama and a portrait of a man who is seemingly losing his mind. His obssession to prepare burns bridges and he finds himself withdrawing from society. It is a bleak film and one that has an opressive atmosphere, there is a feeling of dread throughout the whole production. Michael Shannon is great in his role; he had a sililar character in the film Bug, but with this film he really wears the role well.

This is a slow moving film with little to no action, so it might not be for all tastes. If you get the chance to watch it though, it is well worth your time.

Notice that it took Hunger Games 7 weeks to achieve what it looks like itll take The Avengers 1.5 weeks, if not 2 weeks to achieve that same amount.

Title: The Raid: Redemption
Year: 2011
Country of Origin: Indonesia
Director: Gareth Evans

Story: The story doesn't matter, its only there to propel the action forward.

Review: As you could probably tell, Gareth Evans is not an Indonesian name. The director of this film is actually Welsh, another oddity is that the word "Redemption" will not be appearing in most markets. Nor will the score from Linkin Park be in most markets. Of course none of this is really important, same with the news of an upcoming Hollywood remake or that a sequel is starting production at the end of the year. It simply does not matter. What does matter is that this film is absolutely spectacular. The action is perfectly choreographed and brutal. Though the biggest start of the film is the martial arts that is used called Pencak Silat. This form of martial arts is really fun to watch and makes great use of weapons...literally I don't think I have ever seen this much stabbing in a movie.

This review is a little late, so chances are The Raid has already been to your theater and left. Still if you get a chance to see it...go see it. You probably will not see a better non-fantasy action film this year.

Story: A CIA operative tries to track down a terrorist while utilizing assets from Jordanian intelligence and trying to operate in the confines that his boss has set up.

Review: This movie is shockingly mediocre and for the most part unmemorable....and that is all that needs to be said. Meh.

I'm sort fo indifferent towards it. I will see it, but Prometheus marks the return of Ridley Scott to Sci Fi...a genre that he helped to define via Blade Runner and Alien. I mean this is the guy who in 2007 said that Sci-fi cinema was dead...which technically isn't true at least while Duncan Jones is still making films. Not to mention the normally cutty Fox has stated that they had not cut anything from the film. So if Prometheus suceeds critically and with the audience we can see the return of the big budget and high IQ Sci-fi film that only Spielberg seems to be able to crank out every once in a while.

The Dark Knight Rises is poised to change nothing really. I'm sure it will be great, just not game changing.

That makes sense, I sure hope Prometheus does well then.
 
Are you going to see Snow White and the Huntsman? I'm interested simply for the twist it gives the traditional Snow White story.
