Plot: Conan, what is best in life?

Review: This is the film that made Arnold a star and it is easy to why. He is the perfect actor to portray Robert E. Howard famed character. The film itself is lavishly produced, incredibly violent, and entertaining as hell. It's far from perfect, but it is one of the most iconic films from the 80s and from a pop cultural standpoint alone, you check this one out.

Hey Sexy, not sure if you heard last night, but the producer says that theyre working on a supposed "direct sequel" to the original '82 film. Not much details are available right now, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. If they set it up to be pg-13, im not gonna go see it in the future. Your thoughts?

Yeah, that's what finally got me to sit down and watch it. I mean Arnold is coming back so that can go either way.

I started reading Brian Woods run on Conan for Dark Horse, which was fantastic. So I'm down for more Conan.
 
Hey Sexy, theres a kinda indie movie that I recent saw called Field of Lost Shoes. From my understanding, it never made it to the movie theatres, but only released to dvd. I watched it with my mom on Netflix & found it to be a really good movie. Would like your permission to review it.

Would love to see a review on the Beatles mockumentary film, All You Need Is Cash. It was the main inspiration for films such as Spinal Tap.

I've heard of it, but haven't seen it. I'm still in London till the 20th so my movie watching has kinda gone down the drain. Though I did manage to see one of the worst films ever made three days ago...so that's at least something.
 
So I'm sitting at a pub in central London, enjoying a lovely cider. So I figure now is a wonderful time to talk more about Mad Max: Fury Road. Well less me talking about it and more other people.

Whose seen it and what did everyone think about it. Or alternatively, what's your excuse for messing out on one of the best action films in a while. I meam if you've seen my review then you know that I'm quite taken with the film. I sort of want to see how everyone else felt about it.

I saw Mad Max and loved it, however my friends both hated it, but they also don't like Aliens, so can we really trust their taste in movies?

Glad you liked it...sorry that your friends didn't. It's interesting that you brought up Aliens, since it kind of falls in with the whole Mad Max feminism narrative. Both films feature a strong female protagonist. Then again i'm against that narrative since having a strong female character shouldn't really be that far out of the ordinary. I've been drinking so that might not make much sense, but whatever.

Anyway, good news for you and bad news for me: my self imposed exile to England is coming to an end on Saturday, so expect reviews to being again soon after that.

Plot: Something about endorsing a park.

Review: So Jurassic World is now one of the most successful films of all time. It just crossed over a billion faster than any other film in movie history. Essentially making this film a cultural phenomenon.

Of course the big question is: Why? Or I guess for the purpose of this review, is it good enough to warrant this kind of response.

The film takes place some twenty odd years after the events of the Original and in a feat of abject stupidity, the same company responsible for the first park has opened a new one and dubbed it Jurassic World. I guess people must really like dinosaurs in this universe, because I can't imagine giving anyone money to open a dinosaur theme park after the events that transpired in the first three films.

Anyway, so they open a new park and it goes surprisingly well. After a few years though there is a certain degree of dino-fatigue and the folks who run the park figure that they need to increase the 'wow' factor. To do this they decide that a genetically engineered dinosaur was the way to go. It gets loose and everything predictably goes to hell. That's the movie in a nut shell and it is a surprisingly fun film. I mean it's not a great film. It's really dumb at parts and way to heavy handed on it 'you can't control nature' message, but fun none the less. The cast is decent, Pratt is fun as usual and Bryce Howard does a decent job. Vincent D'Onofrio kind of sucks here, his character is poorly conceived and D'Onofrio doesn't quite know how to play him. Still the film could have been substantially worse. As it is, this is a fun popcorn film that gets a little too over-the-top for it's own good from time to time. Like the ending action sequence goes from decent to schlock at a jarring rate.

Anyway, provided that you haven't seen it yet, you should give it a watch. It dumb, but overall fun.

Title: Calvary

Director: John Michael McDonagh

Plot: After being threatened during a confession, a small town priest is forced to deal with the growing sense of cynicism and darkness that has seemed to engross his town.

Review: This is McDonagh's followup to his 2011 dark comedy The Guard and man...this film is a real downer in comparison to...well most films actually. It explores the impact of the Catholic church in modern Ireland, for better and most definitely for worse. What we are shown is a town that has grown indifferent and hostile to the church while simultaneously are still in need of its services. It's a complex portrait and not a very happy one. I would highly recommend it though, McDonagh does a fantastic job behind the camera and has also crafted a brilliant script. Brendan Gleeson's turn as Father James is absolutely amazing and has further cemented him as one of my favorite actors. This is not an easy film to sit through, but one that is none the less worth your time.

Plot: With the help of a not all that evil corporation, an archaeologist gets trapped in 14th century France. It's up to his colleges to go back and rescue him.

Review: So Timeline is another in a long line of botched Michael Crichton adaptations. I haven't read the book, but judging from what I gathered online, this film is not a faithful adaptation. What it is is a surprisingly dull film. The plot is pretty contrived and mediocre. The acting is fine with Gerard Butler leading the cast in the entertainment factor. Overall though it just a wholly forgettable film and one that should be skipped.
