My mom has a wmp54g PCI slot card & recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium on her machine. I didnt put the card in, installed the driver, then put the card in (because it asked me to do that), then turned her computer on. Its not responding to the pci slot card, but yet instantly notices the ethernet cable. Considering getting the last driver that they have available. I may also try switching the card to the bottom slot (theres 2 pci slots).

Any other suggestions??

Go to device manager,

Windows Key + R

You'll get the Run Prompt

Enter DEVMGMT.MSC

Hit Enter

Let me know if it shoes the PCI card (Networking Devices, most likely)

and if there is an icon (Red X, Yellow ! mark, etc.)

Good Luck!

it does indeed show a Yellow ! under network controller. i looked into it & says that theres no driver installed, even tho the driver can be seen in my programs area, where i can uninstall a program. any ideas on that?

Yes.

This is a common problem with Windows 7.

Open back up Device Manager, click on "Update driver", navigate to where the CD is and look for the actual folder with the drivers, not the .exe auto installer.

This should install the actual driver.

Another thing I heard is running the .exe auto installer in administrator mode, too.

Well that sucks that its such a common issue for Windows 7.

Since im a noob @ Win 7, please educate me on Admin mode. How exactly do I get to that?

Also, I need to add that I dont have the cd available. Just the driver, which I can place on a usb drive if needed.

What?
The driver?
Is the driver a .exe file or is it an actual set of files?

its an .exe file & it shows to install, but for some odd reason it wont communicate properly within the device manager area. microsoft needs to work on that.

You need to look at the card and see what it says

Hardware Version 1.0/2.0/4.0/4.1

If it says 4.1 (hopefully it does) do the following for a quick setup:

Open the Device Manager

- Find the Network Adapter with no drivers.
- Select Browse my computer for driver software
- At the bottom, select “Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer”
- In the next window, scroll down to Network Adapters and double click. Then click “Have Disk”
- In the box that pops up, navigate to/enter this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\RALINK\RT6x Wireless LAN Card\Driver
- Hit OK then scroll down to “Ralink Technology Corp” in the box on the left side. On the right side, select “802.11b/g Wireless Adapter.”
- You're all set.

If that doesn't work follow this:

This card is based on a chipset that RALink uses. Either way, they offer a driver that works.

Download the RT2500 installer.

If it isn't 4.1, I'd contact Linksys direct. i don't have a good answer on how to make it work...

OR

You can try downloading their Vista driver package:

Big problem for Linksys driver is that theres no driver for Win 7, only XP & Vista. I will however look into the RAlink driver. I did some research & found a similar driver. Nothing new with the RAlink driver that I was suggested to download (RT256x).
