I have 3 gigs of RAM on my computer running Vista. I had shared video memory but sense I've installed a new graphics card (ASUS 4870 1 GB) and figured I didn't need shared video memory. I hunbted around and couldn't find it so I checked BIOS, that didn't have any options either so I was like it'll be fine.

Now I open up task manager and it says I have 3069 total MB of RAM, 1968 MB is cached and 50 is free? Whats up with that? Am I losing perf because of shared memory being on and I can't find out where to disable it or what?

If you have a dedicated card it automatically shuts off sharing of RAM to the ONBOARD graphics chipset. There is nothing wrong. You're all set.

The disadvantage is that Vista EATS UP 1GB of RAM to RUN PROPERLY.
