Novint Falcon controls Da Vinci surgical system test unit

I was on a tour of Johns Hopkins university this weekend (admitted and attending, woohoo!) and, while walking past the window of one of their labs, I noticed a pair of Novint Falcons on the table. Turns out they were being used to control parts of a Da Vinci surgical system unit, one of the most advanced surgical robots in the world. Looks like Novint is a key player in some big name science!

Now that you mention it, the two controlling hands looks very, very similar to Falcons!

I've never personally been trained on a falcon, but I guess I can see the use. My school has an old davinci in the basement that they let us practice on. haha.

computerized tools are used to remove the slight trembling of a human hand, it goes straight and doesn't shake, sometimes even the slightest shake can b the difference between a successful surgery and a not so successful surgery

Actually, IIRC it's the other way around. 3D touch applications were originally developed for the Biotech industry. Novint just reapplied their already developed technology to the computer gaming industry. Heck, if it weren't for all the R&D being spent in biotech, I would imagine that Falcons would cost us a hell of a lot more than they do today.

I'm pretty sure Novint has been in the market for these things for a while, actually.

I might have to search their site later but I could swear they make 3D-touch devices for CAD/engineering.
