Sup guys :P

I recently built a new computer a few weeks ago and I tried out cs:s on it and I get 200fps+ but I would get very very strange lag every so often for no reason and sometimes when smoke is present. I'm coming to the conclusion that ati cards or their drivers just suck because the computer I built is much more powerful than the one I had before and I played css flawlessly. Before I had a 2.0 intel dual core, 4 gigs 800mhz ddr2 with a 9800gt and now a 3.2 phenom II, 4 gigs ddr3 at 1600mhz and a 5770. Yes I have the latest drivers and I reinstalled both the game and the drivers. I don't get that lag in tf2 or in any other game but in bad company 2 I get smoke lag and destruction lag and I would never get that with my 9800gt.

I've moved your thread to Tech Help. I think you'll find some of our members are really helpful here.

It happens to everyone including those top Alienware brand computers. Blame Valve not your computer

Are you playing with Vsync on or off?

I've tried both with and without and no luck. It's just frustrating that I don't know whether it's the card or the game. I just want to know before my it's too late to return the card and get me a different one. Thanks for the help everyone btw

Is one better than the other in terms of playability? (Vsync on/off)

What version of DirectX are you running CS:S in? Have you tried reverting back to DX9?

reverting? I was playing css in dx11/10 the entire time huhhhh? That may very well be the problem, how can I set it to dx9?

Games tab >> Right click on CS:S >> Properties >> Set Launch Options >> then type "-dxlevel90" for DirectX 9 or "-dxlevel95" for DirectX 9c.

Thank you so very much for the help metro. I will test this like crazy. Btw, what's directx 9c? :P
