New computer

Since your a little bit under budget, why not just go for the x4?

The idea is to get the X3 is it is cheaper and then upgrade to an X4 when the prices come down and games require more CPU power.

I'd sacrifice a little extra to just have a no-lagg gaming experience.

Plus if you wait and upgrade later, you will have bought 2 processors. Which means a lot of money.

Just took a look and the performance of the CPU seems to be less than the X3...

Have you heard anything about getting an X2 and unlocking it to an X4?

Also, do you think the motherboard is any good?

An x3 would hold out for a couple years at least, since 50% of gamers on steam are still using dual core. So really, its up to him in the end. If he wants to just go for quad now, go for it. But if he wants to save a bit of money, then a triple core will last a while in the gaming scene.

The motherboard, your gonna have to wait for someone else to reply, im no expert one them >.<

That is no longer as easy as it used to be, since now they laser etch the cores.
Or at least that's what I heard.
Why not just get an X4?

He is waiting for the prices of the X4 to drop before he buys it.

I saw Radeon 5770 HD GFX card, That is a good idea on your brothers budget, if he gets that card and then saves up for two 5850's and runs crossfire with them he will have one beastly machine.

I suggest he justs go for a 1TB hard drive, you can find some for extremely cheap prices on newegg brand new, i got 5 TB hard drives from newegg at a price of about 370 - 400 U.S Dollars. (Need them for different purposes, store backup data on two, the other three are for my company).

I say though, that Rig will come out working fine. Try and have your brother save up enough for the X4 like everyone keeps suggesting though, in the long run it will be MUCH cheaper than buying the X3 THEN the X4 ;)

Yes, the HD is good.
What about a case? What case is being used?

His current ATX case will be used.

The plan is to migrate his current computer components into an old computer (p3 700mhz), which will be retired.

Why not just get an X4?

Only Intel lazor etches their cores. AMD just disables them.

BTW,darth what is the VAT? I know its a tax, but why?

on another forum.

?123.36 inc VAT
?104.99 exc VAT

I assume you mean the above, it's just so you can see how much is going to the HMRC (Government). It is more useful for businesses who would claim the VAT back.

Oh. What case is it? Do you know?

Nothing fancy...

Hmm, I don't know if the motherboard supports the SATA II HD, anyone have any ideas?

Hm..
If you plan on doing some overclocking, perhaps a Hyper 212+ would be good.
Other than that, this build looks good.
