Alright,

so, with a budget of $900 tops, I put together this desktop. This will be my first gaming computer, and I have decided to go ahead and custom build it myself. I think acquiring this skill now, when I don't necessarily need it will be very useful later on when something actually goes wrong and I will know how to fix it.
That being said, I don't really know if I should go with a different RAM, and I'd like to know if there are any other GPUs at that price range which will outperform the one I intend on using.

Thanks guys.

Cheers.

I think you could get better RAM for that price. Maybe some Patriot Viper RAM?

Looks good.
That RAM is just fine.
Although I'd go with either a better case or a better GPU.
And, get a Caviar Black, they are faster.

E/ Also, do you intend on overclocking?
If so, you should get a better heatsink, the stock Intel one kind of sucks.

I would strongly suggest getting the reference model of the 5770. XFX has had some issues with their custom circuit board designs. By getting the reference model, you are getting the card that ATi designed instead of the one XFX changed.

Other that that, looks good!

No, I really am NOT inteding on overclocking, this being my first high-end computer and whatnot. Either way, the case is supposed to have very good airflow and good ammounts of space for upgrades... do you have any other cases that can outperform this one without ripping a hole in my wallet? And metro, after looking at the specs for awhile and took your testimony into account, I did decide that the 5770 was more suited for my needs, so yeah...

Why not? Most high-end PC's are overclocked.
And I'm not saying it's a bad case (I have the exact same), it's just that their are better. But not at that price point.
What kind of monitor will you be on?
What size, but mostly what resolution?

Like 1200 x 1920, and I'm scared I'm gonna fry this computer up if I overclock it.

You want a better card for 1920x1200,
and overclocking will not fry your computer. There are several guides you could read for your exact processor, and we could help you out here, as well.

I mean, it can be less, you know, whatever the recommended resolution for the card is. Also, I found a very very good prebuilt from iBUYPOWER, here. Would you mind commenting? I think that it is an incredible rig for your buck right there.

I'm running a 9600GT at 1920x1080, the 5770 will run TF2 fine.
The iBuy computer is nice but the GTS250 doesn't perform as well as the 5770.

Toxin,

Did you mean to get a micro-ATX motherboard? It's not full size, and therefore, won't have as many expansion slots as you could have. Also, the mATX motherboards aren't usually as well laidout as a good ATX motherboard.

I would recommend this one instead:

It's $10 more, but with USB3.0 and 2 additional PCIe slots, it's worth the price. :)

Also, if you're wondering, the Antec 300 does fit a full size ATX motherboard in it.

Oh yes, my bad, thank you for poiting it out. Would you mind commenting on the iBuy desktop too?
And really, you know, if the 250 doesn't perform as well as the 5770, who cares, I'm not gonna play Crysis max'd out or anything, I just want stable FPS when playing TF2.

The recommended for the card is 1920x1080 (I think), but if you're like me and like to run everything at max like butter, I would recommend something more like 1680x1050 or maybe a little lower. But for 1920x1080 I would recommend a 5830+.
That build is pretty much the same as yours, but its a prebuilt, so you can't pick the internal parts, and the 5770 > GTS 250

Only a little better, but it has DX11 support.

The iBUYpower rig looks pretty nice, but the one you built is slightly nicer. The iBUYpower one does come with a warranty and tech support though, and if this is your first time building a computer, that would be worth something.

Also, do you have a copy of windows 7? If not, you need to factor that in to your custom build as well.

I would recommend building your own, because iBUYPOWER and other pre-built retailers don't exactly use the highest quality parts, and with building your own, you know the quality of the parts being used.
