Experienced builders - Comments please!

Hm, now I'm really struggling between the option of buying the iBuy or the custom made.. It'd be nice to acquire the skill to build computers, but I'm really unexperienced, and the last thing I wanna do is, you know, break my GPU trying to force it into a slot it doesn't belong into or such.

It's a lot easier than it seems, and if you want, you could read a few guides. But the GPU only fits in one slot, and its pretty obvious that it will fit, so that's nothing to worry about.

trust me, i just built my first rig like a few weeks ago. it is A LOT simpler then it comes out to be. the only problem i had was getting the front power button connected to the motherboard to start it up. but thanks to the easy, um, whats it called, guide line connector i guess, and some youtube searches, i got it working in less then 15 mins.

if anything, the manual that comes with the mobo is a you best friend, so is youtube :3

and also, http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=128299&page=2

check out where i posted stuff from newegg, great deals. you can get a larger hdd, but you have to hurry, cause they end like in 3 days i think.

good luck on your first rig!

mines on the bottom :p

When i built my first pc i was really worried that i would break something. Surprisingly PC parts are really strong

I would strongly suggest getting the reference model of the 5770. XFX has had some issues with their custom circuit board designs. By getting the reference model, you are getting the card that ATi designed instead of the one XFX changed.

Other that that, looks good!

I see, thanks, the price difference wasn't that bad anyways.

I would get this CPU instead

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...03674&cm_re=amd_phenom-_-19-103-674-_-Product

Its at a faster clock speed and $50 cheaper.

Just my opinion.

Anyone else mind sharing their opinion on this? Keep in mind: I'm not an hard-core overclocker and I want to (obviously) keep the price as low as possible.

The i5 is better for beyond gaming, but they're about the same in gaming.
I would get the i5, because with Turbo Boost, it increases the clock speed to ~3.1 I think (don't quote me on that)

Dude, that power supply is way too expensive. Go get yourself this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276573&CatId=1483

Another thing, I'm probably going to get flame'd by this but you should really hear me out. You're risking a lot by buying off of newegg. It's a huge scam. Yes, I know you think I'm talking out of my butt, but there are countless stories of people buying "new" items and when they receive it, it was a used item or a returned one from a previous customer. This is what happens, let's say someone buys a heatsink, but when they receive it they realize it doesn't fit in their case, so they return it. What happens now is that employee's at newegg's warehouse receive the returned item and inspect it, they see nothing wrong with it. So they re-stock is as new once again, and whoever buys it again, they will receive the item WITHOUT wrapping, foaming, anything used to protect the item or even manuals, screws, or cables. This happened to me and there are many stories of people spending large amounts of money and receive EVERYTHING used.

They even went as far as re-wrapping the box to make it seem "new"

Luckily, you can find everything in your build at TigerDirect, which is so much more reliable and their shipping is amazing. I bought things at both newegg and TD so I'm not really opinionated because this happened to me first hand. Please consider this because this took time to write and I just don't want you to get screwed over.

And yeah many people will disagree with me but just order off of TD and don't risk it. That's a lot of money.

I mean, I'm really open to anyone's opinion. I have bought a lot of accessory from newegg before, worth several hundred dollars, and I was quite satisfied. I mean, I don't know... anyone wanna comment on that?

I think he may be basing his opinion about Newegg on a few mistakes they have made.
I mean, if they were really that bad of a company, would they really have such a good rating?
I think not. It annoys me when people base an entire company off of one event. When it comes to online retailers for computer components (in the US), Newegg is the best there is. Period.

@ rusty

I have used both retailers, and I really don't think one is all that better than the other.

1. There are just as many bad thing that have happened on TD's watch as there are on newegg.

2. 1 instance does not represent a company as a whole

3 that 2nd video is of a card from Fry's (walk in electronic store). You can tell buy the sticker on the shrink wrap.

4. how do we know that the 1st vid isn't an open box item?

5. it is possible that evga makes more than one packageing

Just saying that bad things can happen either way, the staff at either retailer is only human.

that guy is a rager lolz

I'm late to the party, but overall, it looks like a solid build.

I agree, used both newegg and tigerdirect, both are comparable.

I would make one suggestion, I haven't seen here.

If you haven't heard of bing.com's cashback shopping, look it up. It is legit, but its sort of like waiting for a mail-in rebate. You can only use it for sellers that come up in their search, but tigerdirect and newegg are common in my expereince. The cashback % actually comes from the agreement you OK when you sign up. You agree to let microsoft monitor and sell your shopping history on bing.com, not a bad one time deal, if you just use it for a computer build.

I recieved ~$80 off my last build or about 5%

Probably about $40 or so on your budget

I just took a quick look at Bing's current cashback percentage for Newegg, and it's at 3% as of this moment. However, Tigerdirect's cashback percentage is at 8% - 10%, obviously making Tigerdirect seem like a better choice right now. It could potentially save me anywhere from $60 - $80 off that build.

looks good, im all for newegg n stuff but for $199 you can get an i7 930 from MC . That is if you have one closeby.

That's why I supported my point with other instances that has happened to other people with sources Doken. I can put you on the spot too, it's not hard. I'm just trying to help this guy to not get screwed over. I'm not saying to not buy off of newegg, to just watch out and take this into consideration. And...

That was really opinionated. I can really disagree and argue with you about this. But this isn't what this thread is about, I'm trying to help this guy, if you think so otherwise, you can say so in a nicer manner.

As of right now, my total is $927, including the Deathadder mouse and the mousepad. Any more opinions on the build?

This looks like a good build. I can guarantee you will not regret choosing to build a computer. Also I wouldn't worry about overclocking right now if I were you. It won't really be necessary and even with guides is up there on the "this could mess up your computer" list.

I would go with what you have; it all looks good. As for this Newegg/TigerDirect battle, my friend, my father and I have ordered parts from both without any problem.

Most importantly, have fun building your first computer!

I'm not saying TigerDirect isn't good, I'm getting some future purchases there.
All I'm saying is Newegg is the best.

E/ And the build looks good.
