For gaming, the i5 is better because of the price.
And besides, I don't think an i7 is in his budget.

The i7 is selling at Microcenter for the same price the i5 is on newegg right now. However, it went from over 1000 in stock yesterday to under 150 today... so I don't know how long it will last.

You should look up A+ Certification books at your bookstore or better yet at school (might be free). Those are textbooks to making your own computer rig. I'm still horrified by the price they charge people on those books, its ridiculous. Even more ridiculous is the course. The textbooks give you all the basic information you need to teach yourself. With torrents and free resources at school it shouldn't be hard to get a copy.

Like these guys said, its not hard to learn building computers.

Just remember to keep yourself grounded when building your computer. They have those special mats you can use with the anti-static wrist band, but an alternative is to run your power supply and put your hand on the power supply chassis for a few seconds.
