Gary Ruvkun is a noted geneticist at Harvard who is working on the dream of many, finding new alien life forms, for that is developing a chip capable of sifting soil samples automatically and mobile in search of small samples alien DNA.
The scientist says he is very close to creating a device, in fact, speaks of being only 3% of the end of the road, they will end up with a device small enough to be functional to be mounted on a reconnaissance vehicle and able to withstand the extreme temperatures, radiation and Martian climate ordered the grave to Mars Phoenix.
To function, the device would use a combination of a "buffer", detergent and high-frequency sound waves to break the cells of the samples in search of precious DNA.
Thus, we are increasingly able to fence much more precise investigations, no need to collect samples for later analysis, but doing the same on the ground, and indeed, we have no more idea what doors open to know a variety Martian life forms or aliens.
