I haven't personally used any of the transferring software (because I back up my computer like a good boy, haha) but I use the program meta-iPod all the time and it's amazing.

thanx for the info on the meta-iPod program. ive been wondering if theres a program out there to help pull songs off the iPod that you have uploaded onto the it from another person iTunes program. ive been in need of such a program since my storage is almost filled (8gb here) & need to free some of the space. still learning this new meta-iPod software, so we shall see how it works.
actually, meta-iPod seems very restricting. i seemed to have come to a dead end. i cant seem to figure out how to transfer my files from my iPod to my pc using the program. any ideas?

you could of done it from itunes. it would of taken you like 5 mins to put all your music back in itunes from your ipod
Not unless the library is synced with the iPod (and the computer's install of Windows is FRESH), and not with the song names intact. :cursing:

You don't need a 3rd party program for this.
Go to your computer. Click open your IPod (by the name you gave it)
Click show all hidden files. Open the database/music.
You should now see a bunch of music files named ABYE, SELK, XNEG and other four letter junk names.
Those are the songs on you Ipod. So You can now copy and paste them into another file and open them up into your Itunes. Don't worry about there funky names. They will show up with all the correct info when you load them up into Itunes.
On a side note this info is kinda old. As in the first Ipod mini model back about 6 years ago. Damn thing is still going strong

I like migrating my songs with their titles as their files names (playing in VLC, etc.). Not relying on iTunes to read the XML and port the names over...

I really hate itunes. Especially since I have all my music on my F drive (which is a raid that's backed up, because any sane person would back up their music) and apparently itunes doesn't like music on another drive. So every time I quit the program it forgets where everything is.
I really wanna just stop the whole itunes BS. Especially when your computer crashes and you loose everything.

btw sniper4life, i did download that program you suggested & it actually works better. thanks for the heads up. sorry bout it earlier, i d/l it like a min after i downloaded the previous software, which is now gone from my system.
No problem. I work as a computer consultant and as part of the job have a huge list of easy to use, free, open-source software that works better then the stuff you'd pay for!

I guess I forgot to finish my review. Meta-iPod is for transferring things like ratings, play counts and such. The file transfer stuff is above it on the same link. But I think Sniper4life's program is probably better. No more 2am program recs. for me. Sorry for any inconvenience.
