Newegg has an Open Box 5770 for sale. I want it :(. Do you have guys have any experience with Newegg Open Box products? I love and trust Newegg, I just don't know the disadvantages to an Open Box products.

OLD THREAD Below: (DOn't reply to it, unless you want to... lol.

My birfday is on it's way and I should be getting at least $140, which I will most likely spend on a new GPU. I'm making this thread before I know exactly how much I'll get because I'm VERY impatient when it comes to getting new things.

I see myself getting either a 5770 or a 4870. I might have to save up a few extra dollars depending on which one I decide to get.

I'm wondering if the loss of DirectX 11 and Lower Power Consumption is worth the the 256Bit GDDR5 and maybe 5-10 FPS the 4870 offers.

And/or if a GTS 250 would be a cheaper/almost as good alternative.

Phenom II X3 720 BE
Win7 x64
RoseWill PSU 530W 4 12V rails @ 20 Amps. (Is that enough, when I built this PC, people said multiple rails were OK, now they're saying the PSU is weak >_>, but it should handle a 4870.)
1280x1024 Resolution (Will be a while 'til I can get a better monitor, it'll probably be my next upgrade)

I don't see myself surpassing $180 ( Probably exactly $140 ) and I ONLY use Newegg for purchases :)

Thanks. :)

The 5770 will almost perform almost as well as the once high end 4870, but technically the 4870 is slightly better- the 5770 is very quiet.
You will be able to find the 5770 on the internet somewhere for around $150 which seems to be around your budget.
Good Luck building your rig!

With new drivers (10.3+), its about the same and in some cases better.

It would also help to know what video card you using now and what resolution you play on.

If you want to go for straight power, the 4870 would probably still be a little stronger. The biggest problem with the 4800 series right now is that they're very hard to find since they're being phased out which ends up making them cost more than they're worth.

The 5770 is pretty much the best single card solution to go with in that price range. It's a decent card and it also gives you access to DirectX 11 and eyefinity (if you ever wanted to do multi-multi monitors) which neither the 4870 or the 250 will provide. Especially since you've got Windows 7, it's kind of a low-cost investment in the next generation.

Your power supply does seem a little weak, but depending on what kind of card you have now, and what else you have included on your system you really should be ok. If you're worried, again, the 5770 is a good solution as the lowest power user of the three options you were looking at.

260 was on sale for $190 at Tigerdirect couple days ago.

At the 1280 resolution, the 4870 and 5770 will compare very closely in most Source games. However, the 5xxx's have DX11, if you're interested in picking up the latest and being a bit "ready" for newer games.

Updated topic with new question. What are the disadvantages to an Open Box product from Newegg?

Sometimes you will get them referbed or damaged but, newegg has a great system to return and they will replace. just save all your tags on your box and call them if its broken or has problems

The last time I purchased an open box from Newegg (It was a Asus Striker2Forumla motherboard) and it came with just the bored. No LED poster, no sata cables, nothing. I was naieve back then, and I don't trust open box now.

That is what you sign on to when you buy open box.

sometimes its worth it. I have like 10^9th sata cabels

Open Box

I bought an XFX 5870 HD open box from them and no problems whatsoever for the last 6 months. Same full warranty, most open boxes are people who inserted the card wrong, used an old driver or didn't bother to find out if their power supply had the right connectors or enough wattage to handle the new videocard. That or it didn't fit in their old case...............I love my 5870........of course, fermi is out now....but they want 600 bucks almost.............don't need one that bad.
