Was it just a teaser/rumor, but I thought a new Counter-Strike was going to be coming out. Anybody know?

It was said from Valve that it will come after Portal 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 3, so we will be waiting a while.

If you are talking about Tactical Intervention, it is supposed to be released this year, however, Minh Le as yet to announce an official release date (so probably late 2010, or early 2011).
This game is not going to be the new counter strike. It is just a different version that the original creator, Minh Le, has been making with different features that were not put into his first version.
To my knowledge an official CS:S sequel has not been announced, Valve will need a new engine in my opinion before even hinting at this, otherwise what's the point? If the graphics remain the same and the engine remains the same will you spend $60 on it?

But none of the CSes have sold for $60? Any of the Counter strikes by themselves are always $20 or cheaper unless in a pack.
As for news on a new Counter Strike, stay patient, think of the time between CS and CSS.

well there was the release of CSS pro mod not too long ago, but other than that i don't know

haha to be honest, i don't see how these ppl will NOT try to cash in on the popularity of Counter-Strike again. so i expect another CS at some point in time even if it will be a few more years.
i agree they would need a new engine, and to be honest they would need to fix the biggest complaints about the current counter strike...which i think are the hitboxes and throwing a nade annimation.
In my opinion i'd rebuy CSS if they just fixed those 2 things - but for them to come out with a new game they definitely do need a new engine, but also will most likely make a couple of changes.
For instance they made a couple of changes when they went from 1.6 to source, such as the wallbanging and sound (probably the biggest ones) and a more realistic, can still move while being shot, aspect. But how much more realistic will they make this arcade game?
What do you think would be changed in a new version? Im going to say different skins/maps of course, and an almost totally new gun lineup

If I do recall, there was an article released, they said they were making a new CSS, this time they were placing in new maps,weapons and skins, and they will base the maps mostly in Asia and Europe. They will rename it, Counter Strike 2 : Source (>.>)

How about Jail Strike: Source Extended Edition
Who plays CS any more, its all about Jail, and with JS:SEE it now allows 256 slot servers for 64 guards vs the rest and no knifes because you have to find something to kill the guards with and start a riot. Freekills, pfft no more because it alerts the guards who's wanted and who's not. Now you can raid a server freekill over 200 people then leave! Freekilled? Now wait 20 minutes for the rest of the 200+ people to die that are still alive!
