This is a tutorial on how to fix the 'steam is currently unavailable, please try again later' Error message.

I had this problem, and I'm worried that you do right now.
To fix this, if you haven't figured this out, you do this:

First off, the reason for this error is the steam beta. Yeah, cry now.
Anyway, these steps:
  • Go the the start menu, the to 'all programs'.
(the reason to do this is because you need a steam beta shortcut, not a normal one which you probably saved somewhere.)
  • Do a shortcut for the steam launcher (icon) and drag it out on the desktop
  • Right click the shortcut and go to 'properties' then go to the tab 'shortcut'
  • Now find the 'Taget' field. It should say something like this: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe"
  • The add the phrase -clearbeta to the line. It should now look like this: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -clearbeta

As you may have figured, it is really important that you do exectly what I said, and type exactly what I did :)

Good luck,

I had no problem with the beta, tho I'm not using it. Manly because it forces me to run GameOverlayUI. I hate that program it make my games crash.

I had no problem with it either lol :P, and a regular steam shortcut will do just fine for that fix :), although after you have launched it once like that remember to take -clearbeta out, or it can cause problems for trying betas in the future lol :P (happened to me ;))

No problems either, probably due to the fact that I don't sign off steam

I also recall having this problem on steam before the "beta"

Hey dude, thanks! I had this problem for over a week. It helped me. Thanks again!!
