Hey, so I will be heading out to college soon and I'm looking for a solid laptop that I can do schoolwork on as well as play some new-ish video games, mostly stuff off steam, something call of duty like at the most taxing for now. I was thinking buying from ibuypower, since they are one of the sponsors (Battalion 101 M770CUH Notebook if anyone was wondering), and they have nicely priced systems with some pretty nice hardware. however, I've been hearing a lot of horror stories about the company and have become hesitant about buying from them.
Can someone help point me in the right direction? im looking for a laptop has about a 17' screen, maybe 500 gb hd, a decent processor, and 4 gb ram should be adequate. as for my budget, nothing too expensive since its a grad present and i dont want to get too greedy. thanks for any help you guys can give me.
 
Gonna let you know right off the bat, that 90% of laptops can't handle anything above CSS slightly above medium graphics. Laptops just aren't meant for gaming. Running CoD might be okay on lowest graphics possible.


I'll let someone more experienced with laptops take it from here ;)
 
thanks, i mean i would also love to be able to play tf2 again, and i was able to do that on an older laptop. but i was hoping that Mobility GDDR2 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4570 PCI-Express 3D Video would be able to support it all. but thank you for your help.
 
That radeon should be able to handle it actually. A lot of people tend to buy laptops with intel integrated chips, but if your getting the ATI card you should be able to run tf2 with low-med graphics
 
alright then. i just wanted something that could handle things for a few years, but do you know anything about ibuypower as a company?
 
Unfortunately, no. You'll have to wait for some of our resident tech crew to wake up, they'll know more ;)

iBuypower is quite good they make high quality computers, the downside is, if you live outside of US, they ship by UPS or FedEx, which means brokerage fees >.<

The 4570 is decent, it can handle most modern games on medium, but its getting out dated fast, there are some laptops with NVIDIA GTX 260's, that is if you are willing to dish out a bit more cash.
 
alright, i have also heard that ibuypower not good with repairs and everything and overall not good shipping and all that. as for being stateside, thats not an issue, but thank you.
 
Tis true, I personally have never had to send my computers in for repairs, but I have heard they don't really keep track of things that well and takes a few phone calls to sort things out, but their computers are very nice.
 
alright, well, as i said, i need the laptop for college, so whether or not it can go through that wear and tear would be important. do you know if any other company that i could get a decent laptop from for roughly the same price?
 
I personally bought a nice Dell. Despite what some people say, I haven't had a single problem with my Dell inspiron 545. They shipped quickly, processed my order fast, and brought it straight to my door. They had a deal when I bought it for $200 off & free windows 7



So I recommend them as a company in general
 
Dell is alright, but if you ever want to upgrade your computers in the future, it is hard with genuine factory made computers, as the motherboards and wires are custom made for Dell things. Try Alienware, though their computers are a little pricey.

Obviously with brand computers you can't do much of an overall, besides RAM and HD's, and graphics card. But right now were discussing laptops on this thread.
 
I don't believe best buy is the best to buy notebooks. My personal favorites are Dell (my family has had many dell laptops, all working amazingly), HP, and Asus.

And reflex that link didn't work for me :[
