Ok so, I've been having problems with "performance" issues. :facewall: I don't know whats going on but today I thought I would play CoD4 and for some reason im lagging all over the place and averaging 30 fps.I don't think that ever happened before. I believe when I first got my computer I was averaging about 90 fps but i'm not sure if that was on all games, I forgot. It happens in other games also. Like BfBC2 it always seems like im lagging in some way but I never know why. Also today I tried to play MW2 and an error message popped up and said "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the readme for possible solutions." What's that mean? Also another question, I had my computer built by CyberpowerPC so I don't know how to install video cards and all that, they did that for me. But what I am wondering is when they put it in and everything does it come with DirectX or do you have to download that seperately and update it every once in awhile? I dont even know which version of DirectX I have if I even have it that is. I have an EVGA Nvidia Geforce 9800Gt 512Mb, now shouldn't this handle all the games that I play?..or should I upgrade or something? I have 4Gb of RAM also so, I don't know I thought I was getting a great computer but I'm quite sure about that now. I'm frustrated and clueless any help would be deeply appreciated.

Okay, simple fix. Just update your DirectX files. And you should also update your graphics drivers.
Hold on while I grab the links.
What operating system do you have?

Sounds like something is wrong you with your graphics card, you should contact CyberpowerPC, if you still have warranty, they should be able to fix it for you. Or try updating to latest version of DX.

To check your Direct X version (if you have Vista or Win 7), go to start menu, type in dxdiag in the search box, open the program that comes up, and it will do a diagnostic of your computer, inlcuding your DX version.

Since it has been getting worse over time, I would say that there might be dust in your fans. Open your case and check if there is any.

If you have about 250$ lying around you can buy a Anti-static vacuum :D
Otherwise, a can of compressed air and a rag is a nice fix :D

Anti static Vacuum is in my opinion not neccessary.

As long as you don't touch the vac to any parts, you should be fine

Hi, based on your problems I can recommend you to do two or 3 things:

1) Update your direct x, like above said. If you follow this sequence, you'll be able to see what version of Direct X you have: Windows Key + R > type in "dxdiag" without quotes > If a message comes up, click "OK", if not ignore this > look towards the bottom of the first tab. Incase you need it, here is the download link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...roductID=9C954C37-1ED1-4846-8A7D-85FC422D1388

2) Download CPU-Z. For further assistance incase this isn't resolved, this program is a nifty tool. You'll be able to tell us exactly what we need to know. Here is a download link, http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz/cpuz_154_setup.exe

3) Update your audio/video drivers, but first for us to help you, we need to know your driver version and the make/model of your card/onboard. Which CPU-Z will provide, if it gets to this point.

We'll get you back up and gaming in no time!

Your card doesn't offer DX11 capability. But neither does mine, and my dixdiag says I have DX11 as well...and I have a 4870...which works fine.

Do you play BC2 alot without rebooting the computer between sessions?

BC2 is very bad about closing down properly, if you open task manager (Right click the task bar -> Task Manager) you may find multiple instances of BC2 running taking 500MB+ of memory each. You could be running out of memory causing all the slow downs/lag/errors you've been getting.

I've made it a habit of checking task manager every time I exit BC2 now and End Process on it should it not close properly.

Yes, I did discover this myself when I was going to end another process, I found BC2 still running when I just closed the game..I will be sure to check it everytime now

Aside from that -

I would check to see what processes are running and make sure to scan for spyware/malware.

Also, some people tend to have everything and their mother start up with windows. I would check your start up programs and disable most if not all of them.

Most, if not all, Anti Virus programs can have adverse affects on gameplay. They use huge amounts of system resources most of the time, especially during a scan. If you have one, try disabling it and seeing if performance returns.

And like others have stated, make sure your drivers are updated.

Not mine...

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security, is this OK to leave on when I'm gaming or not? It has a gaming profile thing....>>>

I don't know exactly what it is supposed to do...

I think Gaming Mode (don't quote me on this) just disables your firewall or something like that. That's what AVG did for me. But I no longer have AVG.
