Resistance and Liberation Server

<div style="width: 500px; text-align: "center" align="center">As you may or may not have heard, Insurgency has made a move and changed one of it's servers to a Resistance and Liberation (RnL) mod server. Saturday was the first day it was up and functional and immediately we saw promising results. Within the first hour the server was full of people. Now, you may say "You got a server up and people joined, what's the big deal?". The thing is, RnL is a game in it's infancy, alpha v4 to be precise. The beta is being tested in closed servers and normally most of the public servers are empty throughout the day. We popped our server up and people swarmed to welcome the new server to it's community.

As I said, it's still in the building phase, alpha v4. Again, not to put words in your mouth, you may say "Ugh, who wants to play a game that isn't even in beta?". My response, this game is well made even in it's alpha stage and I have played games that were "fully completed" that were less polished and more buggy than this. The game has some things that are being fixed/changed/balanced with it's frequent news updates and patches. The support from it's developers have been outstanding and the community anxiously awaits the public release of it's beta in the coming weeks.

Enough about the back story and now some information about the game.

The goal of Resistance and Liberation is to realistically portray the events and actions taken by the 82nd Airborne during their stay in Normandy. We will attempt to follow the regiments through the campaign that was taken by the men themselves. We will also introduce various other World War II setting maps. The campaign will begin with players dropping into Normandy in the early hours of June 6th with the ultimate goal of capturing the town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise. From there, subsequent maps will include missions based on locations such as Montebourg Station, La Fiere, Carentan, and other key areas.

Our approach in recreating these events is quite different than that of most standard first person games. The principal of our focus is on playable realism. This realism we are referring to is beyond that of Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat. We are attempting to recreate the environment, weapons, challenges, and feeling of WWII combat to the best of our ability while still providing a game that feels fun and comfortable for at least a significant subset of gamers.

Some fundamentals of this form of realism are:
  • No crosshair
  • No HUD
  • No death messages
  • Revised score display

As, you see above, their approach is to create a sense of realism while maintaining the aspects of what makes a game fun. Very few games today demand the teamwork and strategy that this game requires. If you're a lone-wolf player, this may not initially be for you but if you give it a try and see how exciting and gratifying the team-play is, it may convert your play style. In Insurgency, we survive by utilizing teamwork and effective communication and this game is no different.

An interesting aspect of the game is the sense of one's own mortality. You fall from a high ledge, you may break a leg and must limp to find cover. You get shot in your arm, you may drop your rifle and must scramble to pick it back up. You get shot in your head, yea... you're a corpse that litters the field of battle.

We have several members hosting Boot Camp (training classes) teaching the basics of the game and some strategy. They are excellent hosts and will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have about this mod. Feel free to PM Yeti, Burt_Reynolds, Caffeine-Rx, Hardstyle if you have any questions or would like to participate in Boot Camp.

Other great things:
*It's a FREE mod but it does run off the Source SDK engine.
*Proximity based voice chat, your team needs to be close to hear you but your enemies may hear you as well.
*Aiming is a little different here but in my opinion a lot more effective. There are different stance on how you hold your weapon.
*Morale is in existence here; you run faster/further and shoot more accurately when you have your squad near you. Also, if you watch your team mates get shredded by enemy fire or you're alone in the area, your aim suffers and even the visibility seems to suffer. Quite an amazing and interesting feature.

This game is so fun =) I was playing realism today its pretty cool when your organized with people who can lead/listen

I tried to get on the server last nite but it was passworded:( What is the password?

I was hosting events. Boot camp followed by Realism. Like Hardstyle said. Join INS vent channel for the password.

Downloading right now, have always loved WW2 shooters.

And realism, heck yes. Hopefully I will find some good ping servers, if I cant. Well I will just come play with you eGO people ;)

American servers are the minority right now. I'm sure you can find a server in your region of the world. It just probably won't have any players in it =p

Also, our RnL server is on the East Coast of the US. So if you're Euro you'll have a somewhat better ping then on our other servers.

Downloaded it, played it for like 5 minutes then it freeses for like 5 seconds and crashes? never had a problem with any source game, dont know wat the deal is for me :|

There are bugs, but I've never heard of a consistent set of crashes like this. I can't help much with tech support but they have a section on their forums. resistanceandliberation.com

I'm glad you liked realism hour. I'll be hosting again on Friday, right after boot camp. Three more events are being ironed out right now:

Hardcore Hour. Similar to Realism except with limited respawns.

Campaign. Similar to Hardcore Hour, but teams will complete a tour of duty by completing several objectives across various maps. Allied commander will be able to choose locations that are available for attack. (i.e. The first map is Englise, but after that, the allied commander could choose to attack Carentan or St. Marie.) Each decision made by the allied commander will have an affect on the overall game play. Such as additional reinforcements in other maps if previous/adjacent maps are won. This event would take place of the course of several weeks.

WAR. Similar to Campaign. Each team will have a Base with several "Neutral Zone" maps in between. Teams will have to claim victory in the Neutral Zone maps in order to mount an attack on the enemy base. This event would take place of the course of several weeks.

I played a little bit of it. Honestly, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. It seemed to be way too dated (but they did start working on it 6 years ago). It reminded me a little of MOH when I used to play that, but I wasn't drawn in overall.

You should come to realism this Friday at 10pmEST. All I ask is that you come with an open mind. If you don't have a good time, then I won't bug you anymore, but at least give the event a shot. It's a lot of fun with coordinated teams.
