Hey I just bought COD4 since it was 50% off and I didn't realize that I don't have the BEST computer ever, and it's just really laggy and almost un playable.
I really want it to be worth my $15..
What are some ways or commands or setting that I can set it to so it isn't so laggy? Thankssss.

There is plenty of things you could do to resolve game issues:
1) Get more RAM or upgrade your current RAM
2) If onboard, get an offboard video card. If offboard, upgrade.
3) Get a better CPU, triple cores, quad cores are good with gaming rigs.
4) Shut down unnecessary programs when trying to play. Instant Messengers you don't use, useless memory hogging programs, gui enhancements, virus scanners.
5) Defrag your computer, making files easily recognizable and organized.
6) Clean out the insides of your computer with a can of duster every once a month. Not only do you clean it, you also give the PC a break, cooling off the insides quite a bit.

Lol thanks ric.
But I'm looking for more.. non money related solutions, I have no money at all ):

Check to see if your video/audio drivers and latest.(In most cases)
Make sure you have the latest version of Direct X.
Shut down unnecessary programs.
Defrag your hard drive, making files easily recognizable and organized.

Anytime I defrag it deletes my songs, and it makes me mad, how do I stop it from getting to my songs?

The only other program that's up is vent..

I have the latest direct X..

I think my stuff is just to old for COD ):

Yeah. Eek, those specs are pretty low! :)

Although the only other program running that you can see is Ventrilo, there are probably a lot of useless programs running in the background. You can see this when you go into your task manager. Under Processes, you should see a bunch of processes. You will probably need help closing the correct ones though. You don't want to close the wrong one or bad things will happen! :scared:

Yeahh ): I'm trying to get my mom to get me some new parts for my birthday. :P
Yeah I've messed around with mr.taskmanager before.
And I've accidently ended explorer.exe, I've seen what happens aha.
But thanks for suggestion, I'll try it when I get back home ^_^

Well, actually, ending explorer.exe isn't that bad. There isn't much you can do in there to permanently screw up your computer. Messing with your registry will.

To reinitialize explorer, just go to Applications, click New Task, and type explorer.exe. That should start it back up. When I had a really crappy computer, I used to end almost all processes including explorer to play my games.

I'd hate to tell ya this, but it looks like you need a whole new computer. You got a Dell so you cannot overclock, big problem there. What you could do is get some extra RAM and find a used video card on craigslist or ebay . Got an 8800 GTS for $60 on CL for my office rig. Now i can frag in Turbine anytime of the day !

Yes, building your own computer is the best choice you can make when you want a new one. Buying Dell, Compaq, HP, etc. simply doesn't cut it. And nowadays, you can build one for very cheap.
