ok so my kid dumped a cup of water on my laptop.. then proceeded to try to turn it on.... i was able to recover the os and get it to boot up but now the keyboard wont work on it... cant even get the onscreen keyboard to turn on after a restart... can anyone give me an idea as to what could be wron and how much its gonna run me lol... its a Dell Inspiron 1545

Grab a keyboard from a desktop and plug it into the laptop. If that works get back to us. If it doesn't... You're kinda screwed.

Replacement laptop keyboard for the Dell 1545 = $30 bucks @ [ame]http://www.amazon.com/HQRP-Replacement-Keyboard-Inspiron-Mousepad/dp/B001RM0VMW[/ame].

Being positive that the new keyboard will work once you've replaced it... Ehhhhh, I'd have a pro do the install to make sure it's done correctly...

I recommend getting all your stuff onto a USB drive. Do you have a warranty still?

Factory warranty is better than nothing. Except the wait, its usually like 6 weeks

They've gotten better. :P

It's seriously only 2 - 3 weeks now (from somebody that is an authorized Dell/HP/Compaq/Alienware/Voodoo technician and sends them out all the time for repairs).

If you're sending it back, make sure to backup your files before you let that hard drive leave your sight. You never know what damage could occure during shipping or even if they'll send you your hard drive back.

Usually Dell will tell you to remove your HDD before sending them the laptop.
