Hey guys, I was going to attempt to build this computer, and I would like to know what you guys think. So anyways, here are the specs and links to the products, the estimated cost is about $1,900(USD). Also, I am only using a monitor that is 22 inches, 55.88 centimeters, or 1680x1050 resolution. It is an HD monitor with HDMI. I may be upgrading to a 24" soon, but I have no intention to. Post thoughts, comments, questions, suggestions, or flames.

It will work, but dual channel is slower than tri-channel. i7 is made for tri.

Yes that 5850 is good. Not that the original one you suggested was "bad", its just that the reference design has voltage control, which allows you to overclock more.
 
I have to tell you, since I OWN MY OWN.

IT IS THE BEST MOTHERBOARD I'VE EVER OWNED!

I'd approve of this build.
 
if i was bigger in the IT industry, I would definitely do a study on those 2 companies' memory modules & video record it so that you guys get the results & stop going back & forth bout the memory.
 
OCZ used to be good, but now they just suck eggs.

1. Sound card-only if you have really sensitive ears

2. The The cooler Master scout is a really nice case

All of those are great cases. The case is really a subjective thing, buy one that you like the look of.
 
If your stuck on the 5850, thats cool. But take a look at how well the GTX 470 performs when overclocked especially with the voltage tweaker. It outperforms the 5870 in most , if not all scenarios. Take a look around.
 
Personally, I'm still stunned that ATI didn't lower the prices of the 5800 series upon the launch of the GTX400s. It was obvious they would be marginally faster at worst coming out as late as they did.
 
ATi has no reason to lower prices. The 5850 achieves 90% of the performance of the 470, all while costing $50 less.

The 5870 is a similar example.
 
I use a set of OCZ 6 GB 1333 in my i7 rig, clocked upto 1750. Yes, stable. There was a review at tweaktown about overclocking i7 ram kits and the only one to beat it was the CHEAPEST set which was some crucial w/o heatspreaders which clocked to about 1780. I paid $90 just about a year ago for my 6 gigs.

My work rigs 4gb OCZ kit was 120 - 30 on the rebate which i never mail in. This set is the Gold series and now that were on the subject, im gonna reboot and see how high i can get these guys from 1600.
 
Cant even get my OCZ GOLD 1600 4GB to 1800 mhz. Just from the quick run , 1750 looks like the top. Though i dont like the ASUS BIOS , that could very well be a problem. DRAM voltages for example go in increments of .1 v , as well as other settings such as IMC voltages and QPI freq control. Sorta confirms a previous post that quality has fallen off.
 
BTW, as far cases go- i love the storm scout and scout sniper. Just ones blue and ones red . Both are beautiful cases and i have been considering getting the sniper to replace my RC690. The HAF series are awesome too , my only thing would be im a bit compulsive and would end up replacing all my parts to match RED if i went with the HAF .
