Hi guys, the problem is we got the Magic Jack more then a year ago and it never used to mess up my games, but since last month when ever we get a call or we make a call it kills my connection to online steam games. It is very aggravating because of this problem I have not be able to come to many events, or even play on the servers. None of my settings have changed since we have gotten the magic jack so I have no idea why it is causing this problem now.

My computer specs:
Cable connection
2GB DDR Ram
2.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4

The magic jack is connected to my moms computer witch has the wireless receiver for our internet. I am hard wired into the box its self. The box is a Linksys (Modem and wireless box)
 
Because every time my mom dials out and makes a call is when the game freezes up, or if she hits accept to receive a call. And the connection does not come back until she hangs up.
 
You may want to consider contacting whoever supplies you that service and asking them.
 
When I contact them they tell me just to unplug it and plug it back in, or reinstall it, or use the updater which I have done many times now. Or they tell me we need a higher speed internet which we don't seeing as this was never a problem at first. They don't give much support for this.
 
Do you know if they updated their service? If they did you might need a faster internet connection.
 
They haven't updated anything, the updater they told us to get was the same one the Magic Jack came with in the first place and their service hasn't been updated. And its only STEAM games that do this I can play any other game online and the phone won't discount so I think we have a fast enough internet speed for it.
 
Does Magic Jack suddenly require any open ports?
Did your router update on its own or did you do a firmware update?

Does the router you're connected into restart as this happens?
Do any of the lights go steady/off instead of rapidly blink?
 
Magic Jack is still the same as it was when we got it, doesn't need any ports open. My router has not updated its self nor have I updated it in a long time. And we haven't had a power outage or surge in a while. So I guess there is no way to fix this, on top of this problem steam seems to discount a lot since their last update so my game keeps timing out now so I can't play even when no ones on the phone.....
 
OK, it sounds like you're having some sort of communication problem.

Would you be authorized/willing to open STEAM ports?

Steam Client Ports:
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
UDP 4380

Just for a test, would you open ports 27000-27015 and port 4380?
 
I have all of the ports listed open and they have been open since I got the game.
 
Then my next guess would be that Magic Jack and your router don't agree with each other anymore.

Have you tried changing channels on the router to see if that helps any?
 
I have not tried changing the router channels yet. Its just odd that the Magic Jack started messing it up after it working for a few months lol

EDIT: It is currently on channel 6 witch one should I change it to? Also if I change it would I have to re-enter the network password on the other two computers connected to this wireless internet?
 
Probably channel 10-12.

No, all you're doing is changing a channel, not editing any security keys.
 
Thank you Ric! Changing to channel 11 I had mom test calling out and receiving calls and it doesn't kick me. But VAC does keep discounting and dropping my steam connection lol....Any fixes for that :D?
