I definitely cant afford the quad core extreme but when i check toms benches their quadcore in the affordable range flops up and down compared tothe e6850. thoughts and opinions. I am willing to OC because i am going to water cool with a kandalf lcs from thermaltake

It all depends on what you are gonna do with your computer. My personal opinion is to go with a dual core (conroe's). I would go with the e6750 (the one i have) You can easily OC its 2.66 up to a 3.4 at stable conditions 24/7 (if you have a good case like an antec 900 or coolermaster centurion 5.

So yea. all depends what you are gonna do. If gaming i would say go dual core cause games are still not even to the stages of using dual core yet (except some).

Application overload i would go with the quad core. Like photoshopping, video editing and rendering etc.

have you seen the benchmarks on the 8800gts 512? it does better than the gt and the gts 640 in many fields and it costs only 50 more than the gt. NVIDIA IS DRIVING ME CRAZY><

Ummm..don't get the E6850. The E6750 is pretty much the same thing except a lower clock speed. Not that it really matters cause you're going to overclock.

for what its worth i am using the e6600 (thats the 2.4Ghz model) and i have it very stable overclocked to 3.4 on air. This is an excellent chip for overclocking but in saying that i got it last january when it was the shizzz

I would deffinately consider a quad core chip. From my experiences of building systems for others the q6600 seems to be an excellent choice at the minute and pretty cheap for it aswell and overclockable for sure!
