whats better ?
Intel? Core? i7 930 Processor (4x 2.8GHz/8MB L3 Cache)
AMD Phenom? II X6 1090T Black Edition Six-Core CPU

this is no joke, I don't know a lot about computers witch is why I asked the question... and thank you shadows5631 for taking the time to answer it

I'm not going to lie. The i7 930 is the better processor if you want to overclock. There's no question about that one.

That being said, the AM3 platform is cheaper by about $200. If you've got a budget, the Phenom II 1090T is the way to go.

thank you, and i wouldn't overclock it since I don't know how to... and really the only games I play are the cod series, battlefield bc2 and steam games, so I guess i'm also asking would the amd x6 be fine for what i play ?

this is my current system
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Memory: 4000MB RAM
Hard Drive: 650 GB Total
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

The actual price of the CPUs, the i7 would be cheaper.

But, an AM3 motherboard would be cheaper than a 1366 motherboard (in most cases). Either way it's a win-win.

Don't forget that the i7 930 uses triple channel memory too. AM3 only uses Dual. That'll save you at least $50 on ram to go AM3. (assuming you get 4GB vs. the i7's 6GB)

Yes, the Phenom II x6 1090T would be fine. I've got a Phenom II x4 965 BE, and it runs every game that I throw at it flawlessly. However, I do have a much more powerful video card (see my sig)

Sorry, didn't mean anything by it. YES the price of RAM has gone up quite a bit since last year when i bought mine. If you do end up with an i7, PM me and i can go through it with you step by step if you want to overclock which i would highly recommend, especially if your using a Gigabyte or Asus board.

I love my 930. switched up from a 920 C0 stepping that ran way too hot. Went from 3.8ghz and 1.376vcore to 4.2ghz and 1.328 vcore AND still have better temps. My last chip could hardly boot at 4.1 and would easily run to mid 90's before i shut down stress.
