A team of students and faculty at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, have developed a printer capable of making 3D figures of ice assisted by computer, with the aim of studying the structures and modeling stages to achieve in the not very distant objects begin to create a large scale.

At this early stage, the printer is applied to the modeling of commercial and industrial components used in the construction of tourist attractions, but it is expected that future versions can use these original ice as matrices to produce copies in high quality metal.

The experiment, inspired by the techniques of manual construction of buildings, outdoor ice, looking to automate current processes of construction of all types of objects, both work and tourism, which require skilled labor and dozens of hours of work.

On the site of McGill University project details you can model (powered by fab @ home printers) and an interesting timeline of the history of the ice, information used as a platform for the project
