Does it scroll in other documents? Do you have a Logitech
Mouse icon in your Control Panel? Go to Start -> Settings
-> Control Panel to see. Are the settings under the dialog
resulting from clicking on the Logitech Mouse icon set
to allow scrolling for the middle wheel?
If you have a Logitech Mouse icon, this indicates that the
Logitech driver is loaded and being used. If you have a
plain 'Mouse' icon, you may be using the Microsoft driver
default driver, which is okay. That's what I use with my
Logitech mouse, and the scroll wheel works fine.
If you click on the plain Mouse icon in Control Panel,
go to the Hardware tab, and click on Properties at the
bottom. Then click on the Advanced Settings tab on the
resulting box. Make sure that 'Wheel Detection' has the
drop-down dialog set to 'Assume wheel is present'.
Let me know the answers to these questions, and where
this takes you...
The solution required the BIOS
setting to be changed, and the "assume wheel" thing. It is working!
I've done a clean instal of WXP Pro on an IBM Thinkpad A22p (most current BIOS flashed).
The USB Microsoft optical mouse I have works fine, i.e. scroll wheel scrolls as it should.
However with PS/2 Logitech mouse (Model M-S48a) the pointer work fine, but the scroll wheel does not. (If I depress the scroll wheel I can autoscroll in the direction of the mouse travel, no problem.)
I have downloaded MS Intellipoint 5.5 as well as the curent Logitech Mouseware and Setpoint.
Any ideas why scroll wheel isn't scrolling for PS/2 mouse?
The issue had to do with my TrackPoint settings in BIOS.
My TrackPoint was set to "Enable", which means that the TrackPoint is always "on".
I changed the setting to "AutoDisable", which means that the TrackPoint will disable if BIOS senses an external mouse.
Once I rebooted the external PS/2 mouse scrolled without problem.
