I have been experimenting, and I find that the M-16A3, the lowly battle rifle, is ironically the best close quarters weapon.

Burst fire makes it possible. With every click of the mouse, you send three rounds of 5.56 at your enemy, drastically increasing the fire rate. All other weapons need either a long click, in which your muzzle rise takes you way off target, or multiple clicks, which wastes lots of time.

Thoughts?:confused1:

Its all on the player but M-16 ALL THE WAY =-) INS has to make it fun to use

Im garbage with m16 every time i use it (unless m203) i get destroyed x.x.

It's a lot of experience o be a champ at all weapons , especially M16 , to know how much degrees to put on the 203....

It's Insurgency's !up !

professionals such as myself use the sks.

I've been using SKS lately its powerful so i wouldnt say its pro yeti ;).

I like it if there is nothing else to use lol!
I find it to be a bit annoying if there is multiple enemies
but yes a one on one close quarters situation is nice for m-16 on burst fire
but also remember to put it on single shot when shooting at enemy at a distance because while the gun is fairly accurate the iron sights block a great deal of your view.

Yup i put it on single shot all the time that's my problem when i get close quarters with m16 i dont have time to change it to burst and with burst in close quarters you really only have one chance if you are against someone who knows what they are doing and if you miss that chance its game over. Which i often do.

I've been playing with a new set-up recently, and I've been finding it works pretty well.

I set MouseWheel up to Fire, and MWDown to select weapon. Mouse 2 to Ironsight, Mouse 3 to Deploy/M203, and Mouse 1 to reload, and Mouse 4 to change firing mode. Basically, everything weapon-related is on my mouse hand. Works well for everything except spraying (e.g,. suppressing fire with a support gun). Takes a lot of getting used to (you'll reload when you intend to shoot more times than you'd think), but it drastically improves the effectiveness of single-shot weapons. You can fire without moving the mouse.

Might be worth a shot, especially if you're having trouble accessing some function of a weapon during a firefight.

EDIT: Ball-bearing in the mousewheel might solve my support weapon problem.

fn-fal is my personal favorite for everything (room clearing sniper beast that she is). + you can fire faster than a fully auto ak if you get good with it, and all rounds are on target. Personally I just can't hit anything witht he m-16, so I stay away from it xD.

I personally think that the m16 needs to be reworked for this game. Insurgency doesn't depict engagement distances properly. The m16 is meant to be fired at much longer ranges. 200m-300m it would excel. Besides, even Corporals are issued m4s now.

And when you see someone using it you think "Now there goes a pimp!" oh dear where's the little blue guy... FN FAL is BEAST in any form of engagement. And i agree on the m16 Yeti, more than just the m16 need to be reworked to be honest and i think it would be nice if marines got a choice of m21 or m16 for rifleman class. Like the INS have the sks and ak. Cause i would whoop tail with an m21.

Yeah an m21 would be nice, although quite inaccurate from a historical perspective. Oh well, beta 3.0 will have NATO/British forces. (Now with new development leadership it may go a different direction.) You know what that means! L85/SA80! Wewt. Not to mention the highly anticipated L115.
