I just jailbroke my iPod Touch, using Spirit, and it's worked great for a few days now. However, I was watching a video on YouTube while the iPod was in it's dock, and then when the video was over, instead of hitting the Done button I hit the Home button (little circle at the bottom). Now the screen is just black and nothing happens.

However...

It still makes sounds and stuff, for example if I plug it into my computer it makes the sound that you've plugged something in. I can load it into iTunes, and it recognizes it, and even says that it's the latest firmware and everything (BTW Jailbroke at 3.1.3).

What happened? How can I fix it?

Please replay ASAP, but don't say 'You idiot you jailbroke it', because that's what I'm saying to myself now anyways.

Thanks,

DI

BTW it was charging on the dock, and I unplugged it at 33% (or so) charge. Nothing bad with that I'd assume, but I thought I'd throw it in.

:(

Your iPod froze, jailbreaking had nothing to do with that.

That's what I thought about doing... But the thing is that it won't even start up... I think I blew a fuse, because it got really hot then it blacked out, then it cooled. :( How do I fix a fuse?

Everything else works fine but the display.

Thanks, Beta. How do I un-freeze it? I kind of want to keep the jailbreak :P

I can't really take it to the Apple Store because they don't fix jailbroken ipods...

You are going to need to have the people at Apple fix it for you, i have fixed my iPod when it overheated myself and i must tell you it is NOT something you want to do yourself, you need to buy the special iPod opening tools, then figure out which chipset is the busted chipset, and etc, one wrong move and your iPod will not turn on again, as well the warranty will be lifted.

If you do not have a warranty they will fix your iPod for less than it is to buy a new iPod.

I have spirit on my iPod and a few other of my friends do as well, spirit most likely didn't break your iPod, your iPod just happened to overheat. Very rare but it does happen, you should hard restore and wipe your iPod of everything before you send it in so the guys at Apple don't notice it is jailbroken.

Since you jailbroke it, do the following

1. Restore your ipod
2. go to an apple store, and they will fix it. If you leave it jailbroken and take it to them, they wont allow you to use your warranty

Sigh... Schtooped iPod...

I have a ton of apps, some of which are actually legally paid for... Will I get to keep those if I format the hard drive?

I kinda want the apps :(

Once you purchase an app, it remains on your store account. So when you guy to re-buy it, it will tell you that you already own it, and it will just download it normally :D

Wew... My dad was smart enough to try a 'hard reboot' which you do by holding down the power and home buttons for like 10 seconds... It took a few minutes to load up, but not all is well!!!

And it's still Jailbroken!

Thanks for your help guys! :)

A POST TO ALL WHO VIEW THIS THREAD FROM A SEARCH ENGINE:

THE THEME 'Alit' LAGS THE iPOD TOUCH AND CAN POSSIBLY CRASH/FREEZE IT LIKE IT DID TO MINE.

USE ALIT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

You mean you didnt try a hard reboot before this??????!?!!?

Would've been the first thing i did >.>

Yeah I tried rebooting... However I didn't know there was a such thing as Hard Reboot (like CTRLALTDEL) on an iPod!

I'm now using a theme called Tesius, much less laaaaagggggyyyyyyyy! Man I feel stupid :(

Lol.

Thats why i removed my jailbreak.

Ok listen to me.
Do the following:
1.Hold the Power and Home Buttons for 10 seconds
2.Let go
3.Hold the power for 3 seconds
4.Without letting go, hold the power and home for 10 seconds
5.release power, NOT HOME, and hold for 30 secs
6.repeat step one
Should have the apple logo show up

Jailbreaking an iPod won't cause a huge issue unless you take your time and mess something up on purpose. Its a safe system, the theme may of been bad but you can't use that to automatically call jailbreaking a bad system.

I seemed to have caused my harm to my iphone unlocking it then jailbreaking haha. And TBH, I NEVER though of the hard reset even when I have done it multiple times haha.

Your iPod froze, jailbreaking had nothing to do with that.

Or does it....?

Ya it probably doesn't , trying restarting your ipod, or restoring it.
I found out after jailbreaking my IPod, it's not worth it. I myself had a NON JAILBREAK RELATED INCIDENT (WSOD) and I had to get a new ipod. I don't want to take the risk again.

The reason it is slower is because jailbroken is considred a overlay using up almost twice of the ipod touches/ iphones resources
