If you are good at FPS, then the best thing to do is learn your way around each of the maps and know the proper terminology for locations. I suggest loading up Dust2, Office, and High School on your own server and running around some. Notice that the Radar labels general locations. Those names stick for the most part.
So on Dust2, note where A and B bomb sites are. Ts attack through 4 main routes, around the right called Long A, up the middle and up top to the right called Short A, down the middle and through the Double Doors, and straight left for B. If you are on T and someone calls for one of those 4 routes, know where to go. Same with CT, if someone says everyone is going Long A, know where that is and how to get there.
For Office, you have to rescue the hostages or eliminate the other team. For CTs, to the right is Garage and to the left is Front Office. Back in the T spawn area is the Projector room and Paper room. Figure out where those are and you should be able to communicate and respond. In the middle are Side Hall and Long Hall as well.
For High School, identify the A and B bomb sites. B is literally on CT spawn. A is down to the left. In the middle of the map is the Courtyard, There are 3 main halls, East (leads to A), West (leads to B), and North (connects A and B). Each side has stairs and windows that are called CT Window / T Stairs etc.. Ts can go right to Side Yard towards A or left to Parking Lot for B. They can also rush straight to T Stairs and across the Courtyard.
Load up these maps on your own server and run around familiarizing yourself with the locations some. This will prepare you for each map and allow you to respond to messages from teammates.
