On Monday 10 May, two astronauts will travel to the seafloor in the 14th annual trip dubbed "NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (Operations in extreme environments, in Spanish). The NEEMO 14, as abbreviated, is immersed a veteran marine engineer and a scientist who perform many missions to 62 feet deep (about 19 meters) off the coast of Florida.

The team carried out a series of activities outside the vehicle (EVA), simulating tasks that the astronauts probably held during missions in space. With a slightly smaller car than the real, downloaded materials and equipment made survival missions, including transporting an incapacitated astronaut to the ocean floor to the ship.

For its part, the Aquarius laboratory performance will be tested on human beings in extreme conditions, analyzing their physical performance, psychological and behavior. For three weeks, the scientists also live in conditions of lack of communication with the base, as could happen on a journey to Mars.​
