hey hey all whats going on... i just got off my but and decided to join up on yer very nice website... if none of u know me my Name is Fargo.. i try and play on yer Dust2 server whenever possible... and always have a good time.... just a question in regards to yer INS servers.... how come i get an amazing Ping and no lag on he DUST2 server but all the others its choppy??? there a setting i have to change?? other then that ill see u on the battlefield....

Maybe its where you live or your internet connection or our servers are that AWESOME =)

i dunno

unless yer servers are in different locations.... i presume yer Dust2 Sever is located somewhere in Chicago to New york or even in Toronto..... but yer other servers for INS i have played on i get made lag and choppy FPS from them... not sure... im located about 30 mins east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.. so if they r located in California then that would explain the latency but not the FPS dropping to 15....

I have seen this also , but its mainly due to the fact of the map and the amount of people in the server.

Dust2 gets great FPS because the map is not that intense with the graphics. However if you play Bhurize*sp* Karam you will see your FPS go down, even worse when its a full server.

It's your graphics card
You might not want to here that but it is what it is!
I had the same problem when I had bad graphics card
Now I have good graphics card and it never "chops up" on me

Their 2 forms of lag

Ping lag
(This lag is from your internet connection, If you have a good ping such as 100 or less then your not lagging from ping)

Graphics lag
(This has to do with the capability of your computer's graphics card ram and processing speed, If you have old or outdated hardware then this is your issue. If you start lagging when you look at far distance of the map or you start lagging when you are in a heavy shoot out then this is your problem.)

I'm know expert on this stuff I'm just speaking from personal experience but if you update your video card drivers I think that helps a bit but not much. For more technical help you can try our tech help section of our awesome website!

Also, if you don't care about graphics you can lower your direct x level. On my awesome laptop, before it burnt out (RIP) I was able to run full detail on pretty much all games and maintain 50fps, but I care about graphics so little that I would turn it down to dx 8.1. Now with this crappy desktop I am forced to just to run the game, but it's all the same to me.

Keep in mind that what Jason suggested about getting a new video card would be ideal. However, if you're short on change like I am then lowering your dxlevel is a pretty decent, temporary solution.

Anyway, if you're interested in doing so, follow this short guide....

Go to your steam "my games" tab. Right click any Valve game, or any Valve-based mod. (i.e. INS, RnL.)

->properties

->set launch options (you may get a pop-up window warning that this is for advanced users only. If you're not an "advanced user" pretend you are.)

->type "-dxlevel 81" (no quotes)

->launch the game, when you get to the main menu, exit the game.

->remove "-dxlevel 81" from the launch options

->relaunch the game, go to options

->go to video tab

->set everything on the lowest setting. AA off, etc.

Also, if you're RAM is low, you can use gamebooster (just google it.) It's a pretty nifty program that disables processes not required while in-game. Just be sure to return to "normal mode" once you're done gaming. Otherwise it will make surfing the web and stuff a bit slow.

Hey well I see no other place to introduce myself, so hijacked (sorry OP!). I've been merrily playing on your dust2 server now on & off for months. I'm a bit of a mil-geek, hence finding INS so attractive. Hope to get to know a few of you and of course, shoot you soon! :)
