hi,

i've just got a new gc and im pwetty upset that it keeps crashing after playing cs:S for about 30mins

i've installed the correct drivers

but it still crashes ....

when i mean crashes i mean like my whole computer freezes and become non-responsive!!

anyone got any idea what it could be ?

my power supply is the on that came with the case :/ power supply 300:chair:

1. How does this relate to TF2? Is the spy sapping your GPU?

2. Instructions, read them. Somewhere it should say on there the PSU wattage you need. If I were a betting man (and I am), I would venture to say 300 watts won't do the trick. (Try more like 550 MINIMUM)

3. You bought an ATI. That's a mistake. Like getting out of bed on the wrong side.

4. And besides, you don't need a higher end card to play CS:S if that's all you are doing. You bought a 1 year old GPU to play a 6 year old game. This is like buying a full size van for yourself and you plan on having no passengers. What exactly is it going to help you do? Next time get the coupe.

87,

What Opeth is trying to say is that you posted in the wrong section and should of posted in the tech section of our forums. But I can answer for you, the 300 power supply isn't enough to power your graphics card.

According to the requirements the recommended is a 450 watt PSU. If you overclock your computer you want at least 550 watt psu.

Also there is nothing wrong with Ati graphics cards or owning your model so don't worry about those comments. I just recently bought an Asus Ati HD5850 myself and quite happy with my purchase.

Well I'm running a 4850 with 400W but it depends on the quality of your PSU. If it's the one that came with the case, it is probably garbage. So 300W = probably not enough + add to that the fact that it's probably a crappy PSU and you've asking for problems.

Also you might have a crappy video card. Opeth and I both had ones we had to replace. :/

I would recommend a 500 or above. I was able to run my 4870 on a 500 watt, but I noticed some strange stuff happening (so much fun to hear buzzing capacitors!), so I upgraded to a 600 watt. The 4850 needs similar amounts of power, although what you have in the system also affects power usage, and I have a lot of garbage in there (blacklights look awesome!).

As for CS:S, I can usually get frame rates of over 250 with my system, so it is kinda overkill :P

Get nvidia!!!

Yeah, blind fanboyism by people that dont know about hardware, thats really going to help him.

ATI has insane preformance cards with a low price that run cool, 5 series is better than fermi by far right now. Ati and nvidia are constantly overtaking eachother and I go for the best of the time. Right now ati is shining.

And yeah, never skimp on power 300w is terrible for anything. Thats the one thing you want to go overkill on, they arent too pricey. Get atleast a 700w and you wont have future problems.

ATI's cards are hit or miss. There are plenty of documented errors with ATI cards. (For example, on de_nuke in CS:S there has always been a lighting issue from upper bombsite and glare associated with it.) If you are going to spend that kind of money on a card spend $20 more to get one that won't give you and endless supply of headaches.
