Dust 2

Where everyone is coming up with this rank-busting issue is somewhat interesting.

Dust2, rather than HLStats, is the impetuous behind the different play styles you see on the server. I - for one - do not enjoy playing Dust2 only for capping the points, as some claim is the ?one true way? to play the game. Instead, I prefer to help a team by harassing the other team as I find the capture-point model all too simplistic.

HLStats as part of the server allows for the otherwise out-of-place map to have some meaning that is beyond the normal nature of the game. I might suggest that persons who feel their rank drop considerably on the Dust2 map are only out of touch with the nature of how that server plays. Swapping styles of play between this and our other servers does require some rework for the individual.

It would be unrealistic to believe you will all suddenly get better, or worse, by simply removing stats. In fact, as a positive re-enforcement mechanism the stats are naturally geared towards training you to do what you should be doing.

WOW Well written!

Gladiator Approval.

well i personally like hlstats at dust 2, is pratically the only server i play now.
if you dont like stats, just turn them of for you

Strange I wonder why the game was built with kdr in it then?
I've only been playing Ins since this year so I don't know if kdr was just added recently or what. I think rank matters why else do we have hlstats on all our servers? But you say you don't care so I will take that as A "Yes remove hlstats from dust"

Yes, KDR is a recent implement to the game. I think we should get rid of Death Notices on all server, but that's just me.

The death of having fun in a video game.

I think you guys that are scared of the #1 rank being lost from dust haven't played on any other Dust 2 servers to understand that its not possible for a another Dust 2 server to take number 1 spot

We have the #1 Dust 2 server because we have the best admins and with hlstats gone we will have even more admins such as myself _Me_ and many more.

While that's a great sentiment and certainly true to some extent, changes we've implemented on the Dust2 server in the past have dropped the server ranking, in fact at one point we had a rotation server ranked higher than our Dust2 server.

Maybe we can make it some seperate stats system on dust, and it would only matter on dust.

i have to agree with Rathion and Jason on this one this would be a very good solution, everybody'satisfied then. If nobody else does it i am willing to propose this idea on the admin meeting on wednesday, but offcourse rathion its your duty cause its your idea but if you don' t propose it i am willing to do so.

Stats can never accurately represent a player's contributions to the TEAM. Suppose i camp a route less frequently traveled. I would only eliminate a handful of enemies, but those would have been the guys who flanked and killed my entire team. Then proceed to capture the winning objective. In this case I would have contributed a great deal to the team effort; however, my stats wouldn't reflect it.

Point is, players who work with the team all ready know that they are exceptional players, and therefore don't require stats to back up their ego. Leave the stats to games like counter-strike including, but not limited to CoD:MW1/2 and all of its clones such as BFBC2

There is a really important issue with stats which is overlooked most of the time:

Stats only show a players progress/skill inside the tracked data!

While this fact is quite obvious, the implications are not!

Players concerned about stats will most likely perform actions that are actually tracked to raise their score. (still quite obvious, isn't it?)

Point is:
Players don't get points for capping objectives, blocking objectives, calling out targets, ... players only get points for kills (or loose'em for deaths).
Hence, in order to increase their ranking, they naturally will focus on killing foes (in combination with trying not to die). They won't really care about capping objectives...

To be honest, gameplay on Dust2 wouldn't really change if it had the cappoints removed (at least that's what I experienced).
However, that is quite a big difference in comparison to 'default' INS maps. I'm sure most of you will agree that gameplay on dust is much different from what it is on 'default' INS maps.
Hence I voted (see this poll) for separated stat for Dust2 and rotation/firefight.

This is part of the reason having stats in Dust2 sucks -- all of the stats-watchers hang out there and go for kills instead of caps.

Stats can never accurately represent a player's contributions to the TEAM.

I like to think of myself as a team player, and my score usually sucks compared to most people.

I think we should get rid of Death Notices on all server, but that's just me.

Part of me agrees with that, and part of me doesn't. I don't think that not having death notices is a bad idea in general (it makes the game more realistic) -- but the pubs, obviously, like them, or they wouldn't be on our servers. If we make too many changes, we'll scare them away.

Maybe we can make it some seperate stats system on dust, and it would only matter on dust.

Idk...that might actually be a very good idea.

As discussed in ART this evening...having a separate instance of stats would require us to rent another hlstats server. And that's simply money we don't have. Also, coming from high up, "We won't be changing that server, it's #1 for a reason."

Note: Cruel Device has an idea regarding dividing the stats so that dust2 has it's separate system. He is in discussion with leadership, and I'm sure will report back with the news.
