Hi, eGO.

I just got this laptop in February, so it isn't that old.

When I turn on my computer, it halts and says this:
The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation
So I struck "F1" to log into BIOS and did the tests, all passed. No failing hardware.

It kept showing me that for about a week, then suddenly the battery stopped charging. All I saw was "Plugged in, not charging".

So I snooped around for a little bit and found this:
1. Unplug AC adapter. Shutdown
2. Remove battery, Connect AC Adapter
3. Start windows7. Remove Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery,
4. Shutdown, Remove AC Adapter, Install battery, Reattach AC Adapter.
5. Power up - plugged in and charging.

Success, it worked!
But due to my stupidity, I had to reformat shortly after the fix was applied.
Note: At the time it worked, it charged my battery from 27% to 100%, indicating that the charge is flowing.

After the reformat, the dreaded message came back. Well, this time, the solution above didn't work. Contacted Dell and they want me to ship my Laptop back to them, which may take up to 2 months for repairs to complete.

Fine, but, my issue here is, I fixed it myself. It worked until I had to reformat, which means I done something right. But why won't it work now?

I don't have another power supply, so I can't test.
I don't think the battery is failing because if I have the battery plugged in, the little battery light indicator comes on, which means its getting some sort of power. It just stays on 79% Plugged in, not charging.
The battery only drains when I don't have it plugged in, so I'm almost very positive it isn't hardware(still could be) related.

Thanks again, eGO.

edit: Can someone move this to Tech Help? Thanks.

Yeah.

Windows 7 64bit to Windows 7 64bit, same distribution too, Home Premium.

I also upgraded to the latest BIOS to see if that'd help, it didn't.

Can't find much of anything else to do, I'm on wits end.

I don't want to pay 50+ dollars for something that might not even be broke.
