Anybody ever see something like this ?

1st. I was running a mix of 1 4890 and a 3850, but just yesterday i got my 9800GX2 which drops major points (ima catch you if you don't read past this line)

2nd. DUDE YOU COULD HAVE like 50k PPD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! do you have 6gb of ram on either both or just your sig?

If you fold bidadv WUs a single i7 can get about 25k ppd. Bigadv requires 6gb of ram

bigadv guide

one day my bro will beat you.

Also, what WU do you have right now? I have this really crappy one (6603). It's almost not worth my time. (only getting 8000 ppd between 6cores and GX2).

3. GPU3 is estimated between summer '10 and around April '11. Nobody is really sure.

Yes both machines are using 6 gigs of RAM.

So the CPU's alone could be doing 50,000 ppd together plus what my GPU's pull.

Tomorrow im gonna spend all day getting the i7's folding correctly, thanks for the advice Reflex !

Yea, im also working on 6603 . How do we know if they are good units or not ? Some of the names Stanford gives them are pretty funny...

1. yes names are funny

2. they are bad units b/c i should be getting 20k ppd when i only get 10k

3. cant wait to see you pulling 50k+ (btw what is the other i7 used for?)

4. sorry for these lists, i know they look bad, but i cant organize my thoughts well, otherwise nothing makes sense

The other i7 is in my bro's gaming rig as well as his GTX 260. Last time i tried folding using vmware to take advantage of hyperthreading but could not get it going and was just getting on my nerves, not worth the extra stress (on myself and the computer) .

Still haven't got around to checking my PPD... I have not folded on my work rig since the artifacts but did speak to the gentleman i purchased it from . Not sure if i should continue to fold on it til she dies, or just use it as normal and see what happens. Dont know how long it's gonna last under normal conditions w/o folding on it. Cant really go more than a couple days without multi-displays.

Been trying the past couple hours to get the smp client up and running CORRECTLY. I am following the instructions exactly, or i think i am... On my i3 work rig , it folds 2500 or 1% about every 3 minutes and is not using 100 % cpu usage or nearly close to it. I know this is a simple program to get up and going, no idea why this has to give me a hard time every time. Frustrated enough at work as it is ....

When trying to run install.bat, it gives me errors in the console. I am not getting the message " if you see this twice, MPI is working" . Any commands i run through the prompt gives me errors , and yes i am running as an administrator with my AV turned off 10 minutes at a time. It does fold, just not correctly. Im gonna add you Reflex, maybe you can help me a lil later on if you can spare a few minutes to help me out.

Do you have a Password set on windows?

If so are you sure you set it right?

btw, bigadv are hard to get sometimes, a LOT of people have problems with them. Don't feel bad.

I'm not even trying to use Bigadv, just the regular ol' SMP client. I'm sure everything is being done correctly as the steps are short and simple and easy to go through. I'm just gonna continue on with it til i figure what MY problem is.

And yes, i do have a windows pw... I'm gonna work on it some more, read some other guides to it and maybe someone will mention something thats been right in front of me the whole time and turns out to be a silly mistake.

Project 5783 ...

Working on GROing Monsters And Cloning Shrimps...

GROMACS

Had the exact same thing on my 8800GT folding the other day. It could possibly be bad work units, or work units that are overly strenuous on the GPU. Rebooting and returning to default clocks fixed it for me and it hasn't happened again.

EXACTLY. This happened while folding and folding only. Well i would not know if gaming since i dont game much at work, and if i do its TF2. Rebooting fixes the problem as you said. for some reason GPU usage stays at 0 or 1 % unless i bump the GPU clock up just a few mhz then it kicks in and shows 99-100 % usage. Lol the guy i bought it from emailed me back and said to turn the fan up from the stock 37 % its set at ... Found it funny myself as when i bought it from him he had no clue of what i was talking about as far as clocks, threads, cores and all that good stuff.

Hey guys, the 8800 has been folding for almost 4 days straight now with no trouble. I am keeping the fan at 70 % and shes folding away nicely, and ambient temps have increased by at least 5c .

Congrats dbee. I just saw this topic and I've just gone through the RMA process with eVGA. My fan on a 9800GX2 died, causing it to overheat, so I had to send it back.

Here's the RMA process: 1) You gotta log into the account the card was registered under.
2) They require a copy of the original receipt of purchase (you can scan it, and upload it as .jpg and it must be a .jpg to upload)
3) Unless you bought a shipment policy with eVGA when you first registered the card, you will have to pay for the shipping fees.
4) From OH to CA, It cost me about $45 via UPS Ground. Right now, ground shipping from eVGA costs about $25, 2day is about $50.
5) It can take up to 10 business days for them to evaluate the card, and then send it back.
6) EVGA guarantees 3 day business shipping BACK to you.
7) When you receive your replacement card, be sure to register it like you did previously, and opt this time to buy a shipping policy from eVGA since it is a lifetime warranty, and the shipping policy doesn't expire until used.

Another interesting fact: I was looking to possibly buying another 9800GX2 card, but I don't see them available via Newegg.com anymore. Oother stores online, are selling them for about $600, compared to about $250 when I bought it 17 months ago. Pretty sure eVGA and other nVidia-card manufacturers are stopped production on this card, hence the high price for them now (and it's a great card for a $250 price tag)

Thanks Snipeye. Not sure if you read the Thread from the beginning, but this is the second time it has artifacted and everyone said she was dead and needed to RMA. I didn't fold on it for a couple days, then decided i would make the card completely fail before i go through the entire process which would be a bit more complicated as i bought it used and already talked with the original owner who is local. As posted above , its been folding 8 days non stop without a problem. Just keeping the fan at 80 % as its pretty hot here now- 80's all week and the AC is acting up.

Once its totally dead ill be ready to send her out, but im gonna beat the hell out of it for now :-)

If they no longer manufacture the 9800GX2, i wonder what they will send you instead since it has to be of equal or greater specs. Seeing as how the GPU has 256 SP's, a GTX 260,275,285 would not be of "equal" specs at least the way i look at it. Not sure how technical Nvidia is with it, but maybe you'll get lucky and they will send you something special, if they are unable to repair it.

Well, with the 9800GX2 not being manufactured anymore, it can't be bought on the market at a competitive price. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that eVGA does not have extras, or spare parts for them, not in their warehouses. I've received a brand new 9800GX2 to replace my old one (which really wasn't that old). It came in the mail yesterday, though I haven't really opened the box fully yet. So maybe I'm wrong, and its a nVidia 250 or 280 inside. Wouldn't that be nice?

The GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX+. You dont want that, not even half the power ... I wouldn't be happy with the 280, a 285 ... that would be much nicer and most likely the closest they can get to the GX2.

Friggin awesome bro... What did i say post #36 ? I know if i RMA my 8800 GTS they would have to send me the closest equivalent which is a 9800 GTX + which is the only 9800 with 128 sp's as my 8800 has. Hmmmmm.. If i wait for those to stop production, they would have to send me a GTS 250 which has much higher factory core clocks.
