What exactly are the differences between the regular software thats on the PS3 and putting Linux OS on there? Just curious bout that as ive heard that people can install Linux on PS3.

You used to be able to install Linux on the PS3. Ever since a modder found an exploit in it they patched it (This was in April)

It wasn't the most practical thing to do, but the Navy actually had a system of PS3s with Other OS installed for computing information.

so not really that big of a deal. mostly for big time nerds who want to do some works w/ computering #s & other data. btw beta, can you do the ego community a favor and update your psn thread? its like over 1 1/2 years old. i apologize for getting a lil off topic on that, but would be very appreciative.

imagine if you could install windows and play all the newest FPS releases on it :)

sony is being sued for removing capability to install other os on ps3?? big ouch!

I don't see Sony losing. Oh and you couldn't install windows because PS3 harddrives are running on FAT32 formats, where Windows needs to be ran on a NTFS format.

and how does that matter, it's called partitioning you can split the disk up and use multiple filesystems, for example the drive i keep my os's on has ntfs, ext3 and ext4 filesystems on it

it uses less headroom, it is journaled to allow for faster searches, it is somewhat self-repairing and never requires defrags and is more stable than ntfs.

Slightly less stable, since if a hard shutdown is done then you can lose data
