Well I have most of my folders switched from my 1 hard drive, but gotta focus on my primary hard drive. Once the primary drive is finished, I wipe both the primary & secondary clean, making the 3rd hard drive the primary. Now once I install Win 7 on my new primary drive, will it recognize my external hard drive since both partitions use win xp? Just curious bout this.

i think you made the above statement more confusing then necessary, but to answere your question winXP and win7 both use the ntfs filesystem so they can all read partitions for one and other.

and to install win7 you wont need to formate more than 1 partition just wipe the one you wan to install the os on.

well then i apologize for making the statement a lil confusing. this is what i am doing. i have 3 hard drives inside my tower. 2 of them are not needed, so im gonna wipe the 1st 2 clean & sell them off. the 3rd hard drive (500gb) will become my primary hard drive & itll get the win 7 os on it. thanx for clearing up the info on the ntfs info. thats what i needed to know. i hope this statement is a bit easier to understand.

ya both Seven and XP use the exact same file-system but i would recommend using 2 drives or just partitioning your drive. it greatly simplifies the OS install and upgrade process when your personal data is kept on it's own drive or partition and the OS and your applications have a drive or partition dedicated to them.

well right now im still working on transferring files & folders from my primary drives to my external hard drive (which is my backup). once the operation is complete, im gonna wipe the 1st 2 drives & keep the 3rd, which will become my new primary hard drive. right now the external hard drive is sliced into 2 partitions & i will more than likely keep it that way.

I have a somewhat related question and an off-topic comment.

Does Windows 7 Pro display Japanese Unicode correctly?

Also, your avatar gives me seizures. Cut that out.

never tried it all works fine for French and English which is all i need.

Ok, well first off im replying to both of your posts on Windows 7. Installation went fine. Now comes the process of installing the driver for my video card as well as software for all the things I used in XP. Man this is gonna take an extra long while.

To Prisoner, if you cant stand my avatar, dont look at it. Simple as that. I like it frankly & other eGO members have enjoyed staring off into space while looking at it. Until I find another avatar that I enjoy more than it, it will stay put (or unless council requests that I remove it, in which I have yet to hear a complaint from them either). Now if you want to help me find an avatar that you feel will work better (& I have to like the avatar, not to mention that it has to work within the forum specifications), then by all means feel free to search one out. Ill be glad to check into all suggestions.

Overall, im enjoying Windows 7 so far & look forward to saving $$ to upgrade my memory bank (going from 4gb-6gb).

Btw, forgot to add that it was interesting that the os set my default resolution @ 1680x1050. Gotta say that everyone looks good, especially at this resolution. It will take some getting used to since im so used to 1024x768 resolution.
