STEAM Account Hijack

A player got a steam chat message from my account that said I was trying to get 1000 people to join a steam group so I could get a free server from a sponsor. This person had to log into their steam account to sign up on a sight. They did, and their account was hijacked.

First of all, a warning to anyone who gets this message... ITS NOT ME! Don't go to that site and NEVER enter your STEAM info anywhere but in a STEAM application.

Secondly, should I take any action to protect my account, or should I get another?

Hmm, they could be using their own account and impersonating you. Firstly, change your password and make sure you email address is verified. If it is it should be impossible for them to get in and change the password.

Also, if you do find out who this person is you need to report them to steam.

Yeah, what darth said is probably the best action because I have had my account hijacked, before too and I would recommend exactly what darth said

After looking at your steam profile. You havent logged in for 19 hours, so its definitely not your account. They must be impersonating you then.

Hmm this is the first time i have heared this you may want to check up on the steam forums maybe post what happend. Maybe this is new to them as well!!

After doing a search on steam i cant find any other player by the name Artimus... i couldnt even find you, just goes to show how much fail steam search is. Oh well.

The person who reported this now says that it wasn't actually my account, just someone using my name. Interesting....

Well since you havent signed on in approximate 19 hours, it wasn't your account.

Anyone can change their name to yours. I could if i was stupid enough.

ya someone most likely went to you profile page and copied your name picture and info and made an account with it.

prolly some stupid kid trying to steal some games or make a few bucks at your expensive.
i don't really know what valve can do about it but post a warning and kill the account that it came from.
