I want to know why some people, like me, can do incredible one round then do terrible the next 3. Example being getting 5 kills and no damage, the blowing yourself up with your nade.

Well, there are probably a couple explanations:

1) You get excited after a good round and lose that extra concentration that comes with the feeling of "man, i have to get a good round in. these last few have been terrible!"

2) Your opponents quickly learn your strategy and you are stubborn enough to try to take on the 3 or 4 of them that are countering it.

3) you got lucky

Any time I game, I vary between those 3.

Yes. Definitely a couple. ;)

The entropy of the universe is increasing.

Entropy is the measure of disorder in a system.

For the non-engineer you can paraphrase the second law thus:

Everything is always getting messed up.

I think there is also an issue of doing to well. When people do really good in a game often at times they tend to get into a "I'm invincible" state of mind where they over estimate their over all capabilities and just get careless. So after killing 5-6 people you are feeling really good about your self and under normal circumstances where you are kind of hesitant to go somewhere because you are afraid of dying, your in this invincible state of mind and you end up rushing into a location a little bit to early or you forget to check a certain area that usually would have while running to get your objective done. There is also a lot of adrenaline pumping when you do good to because subconsciously you want to keep going and going and getting those kills so for the next couple of rounds that adrenaline "high" so to speak is winding down as your doing badly and you transition into your usual game play mode where you begin to check those corners again and be more careful when rushing into a location.

I do it all the time. Have a great round, then all the medics think I'm good and start healing me next round, only for me to let them die over and over while I rocket jump into a sentry farm.

There is a very simple and logical explanation. Well there, isn't there are so many reasons. A good fps gamer is not someone who can do 31-0 once in his gaming career, it is someone who carves up 18-7 rounds consistently.

This is due to many reasons.

1.How your team is doing. E.g. Working together gives you less of a chance getting killed individually.
2. How lucky you are
3. How lucky your opponents are
4. Concentration
5. Your feel. I think that when you get good and you get that "feel". When your pulling of those long range headshots and those perfect flick shots, you get on a roll. MOMENTUM. Is vital in ant competition.

And there's probably more but my head hurts too much to think right now D:
It's Quaffer's fault -__-

Happens to me all the time. I think it's the mentality you get.

"Oh damn that was an awesome round! I'm so good"

Then you suck..

It happens to the best of us lol!

I tend to do good in the mornings, scraping up Gold FBG Awards.

My problem is I become so cocky at me dominating players I become careless and try to pull of show-off things I can't do do I think I am good enough since I did so well.
This leads to my focus the game before failing and then as frustration sets in, I get worse and worse.

Story of my life....

There are rounds where I will go a round straight being able to one deage 5 players in a row, and then all of a sudden, I can't seem to be able to even aim a deagle correctly.

It just happens and its part of life. Its strange, but you got your ups and downs even in CS:S lol.

I'm sorry... what? Did you just say you one deaged 5 people in a row?

Rofl. This never happens to me.

The key to success is to play smart.

Take your time, don't get too anxious and push. Use your nades wisely. Nades are always for the win.

Your goal should be just 1 kill per round. 1 kill is one less person your team has to deal with. More than 1 kill should make you feel great, because its less people for your team to kill. Also, if you don't get a kill, try to get as much damage as possible on the people you are shooting, so once again, your team has an easier time killing them.
