Shin Splints, what the hell!
Can someone please tell me methods to make them go away or fix them? I run every day for 2+ miles, and when I run I get these 'shin splints'. They get worse as I run. I was told not to run, to let them go away. But I can take a lot of pain, to me, they're annoying and just won't go away.
What're some techniques or ways to rid Shin Splints?
Runners? Anyone? lol

Let's talk about Shin Splints.

1st.

STOP RUNNING!

I got them running on pavement in bad shoes at my University's human vs. zombie game during fall semester and it sucked.

You need to stop running for a few days atleast if you want them to heal. They will NOT heal if you run on them. Its like reopening a cut.

Just because you can tolerate pain does not mean that you should, its your body's way of saying that something is wrong and it needs to be fixed.

Oh okay. Maybe I'll cut running for a little.. I have finals this week anyways.
Thanks blackhawk.

Yeah I usually left my running shoes in the locker room for weight lifting class, probably should keep them home, I run more at home then in weight lifting class. I also do parkour, so it really sucks to land right now.

Drink lots of green tea. And read some Zen philosophy. Cures all my shin splints.

Haha of course Vader.
I actually drink loads of tea (When I have it)
And I don't read quite so much.. but whatever XD

A lot of basketball players that run track / run a lot suffer from this. My track coach told me it's due to the changing of surfaces (wood to stone / asphalt).

The cure is this: get a styrofoam cup, fill it with ice and freeze it. Once frozen, peel the rim of the cup off and rub your shins down with the cup. As the ice melts against your legs rip more and more of the foam off (the cup acts as a cushion to save your hands from the ice). This trick works wonders. Hopefully that makes sense. This has worked every time I had shin splints.

Interesting. I will definitely try this out. Thank you for your input/suggestion!

Stop running, stay active on vent so that when I come in and talk you respond, and play massive amount of assault and high school with lplkassm, Fart Vader, and the occasional sscarr :)

Hope your splits in your shin heal, and if they don't, then please don't QQ :P

MAN UP! RUN THROUGH THE PAIN! RAWR!

nah im just messing around
you should taker a break from running until they heal
then jump right back in the saddle

Just soak the area where you got shin splints in a bucket of ice for 20min everyday, and basically all I can really say is to Massage it.

Thanks for the suggestions XD

kassm usually I'm listening to music or not there hah
I'll take a break for a bit and probably do another workout. ^_^;

Take breaks like repetition you know, it doesn't matter how far you walk but how constant you walk and trying not to hurt yourself. You can run for 1 mile a day and that's good enough, just work out back at home. I know the quote of "FEEL THE BURN!!!" but.... don't feel it too much...

Well if you don't want to listen and continue working out then I hope a midget comes and kicks you in your knees because you're NOT listening to US!

Run Ninja, I have released the evil knee kicking midgets!

Ouchhhh
I don't play sports, the only thing close to a 'sport' I do is Parkour. XD
But that hasss to suck. This is my first day not running in long time. D:

On top of what everyone else has said, take ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil; NOT Tylenol). If you are a decent sized individual, take 600mg (usually three pills) twice a day. This will help with the inflammation from the muscle and promotes healing.
